“My first solo adventure took me to Moscow and Estonia. It was quite an interesting experience, especially because I was a college student travelling on a tight budget. Luckily, I met two Indian scientists on the plane who offered to drop me off at a nearby metro station in Moscow, saving me the $35 it would have cost for a cab ride.
“When I arrived at the Moscow metro station, I was completely clueless because I didn’t know the language or the place. A stranger noticed my predicament and decided to help me. They not only guided me to my destination but also offered to carry one of my bags through 500 metres of snow. That experience was a great reminder
that, despite all the scepticism we hear, there’s still a lot of kindness and goodness in people.”
“We decided to go to Kenya on a day’s notice. It was all fun and adventure until we were at Nairobi airport,
about to board our flight back home, and we realised that we needed yellow fever vaccinations to exit the country. We hadn’t planned for that at all and had to scramble to locate a dispensary within the airport. Thankfully, we
managed to find one just in time.
“I learned that sometimes, you have to problem-solve on the fly. Travel can throw unexpected challenges at you, but you’ve got to stay calm and think on your feet. It also made me appreciate the importance of planning ahead a bit more.”
