Meta, which owns Instagram, has waged a war against Twitter with its latest offering Threads. As per the reports, the all-new microblogging platform has surpassed 30 million users and is still growing. Mind you, this app seems to be the fastest to reach this amount of users.
Twitter vs Threads: Key differencesMeta has confirmed a 500-character count limit for Threads, while unverified Twitter users have a 280-character limit. Users need an Instagram account for Threads, and they can import bio information and followers from their existing Instagram profile. Threads allows users (including unverified ones) to post five-minute videos, while Twitter limits non-verified users to two minutes and 20 seconds. Twitter's homepage offers trending topics and personalized recommendations, while exploring Threads is currently limited to scrolling through the home feed. Threads does not appear to have a post draft feature at launch, unlike Twitter. The process for starting a thread on Threads requires pressing enter three times, compared to Twitter's plus button. Threads does not offer a separate tab to view other profiles' likes, unlike Twitter. Threads follows Instagram's content rules and provides controls for muting and blocking harassing accounts. Threads is built on the ActivityPub social-networking protocol, allowing users to interact with a wider community beyond Instagram. At the time of writing, Threads comes without ads. It may change in the future, but it’s not there, as of now.
