As the teams prepare themselves for next year, let's take a look at the teams which has been able to lift the prestigious cup in the past.
List of past winners:
- Euro 2020: Italy emerged glorious against England in the 2020 tournament. And it all happened because of penalties. Italy won the European Championship for the second time by beating England 3-2 on penalties.
- Euro 2016: Remember Ronaldo's tears and injury? Yeah, this win was special for the fans. Portugal lifted the cup after defeating France in the finals of Euro 2016. The team was able to defeat the host France. The main man who stole the show was Éder’s extra-time goal.
- Euro 2012: Spain beat Italy 4-0 in the final of the tournament on July 1 at the Olympiyskiy Stadium in Kyiv. The win was marked with the team completing a hat-trick of major tournament wins: Euro 2008, FIFA World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012.
- Euro 2008: Spain beat Germany 1-0 in the UEFA EURO 2008 final in Vienna on 29 June 2008. David Villa missed Spain's final win because of his injury. But after missing, a tiny win came through for him as he became Euro 2008's four-goal top scorer.
- Euro 2004: Greece caused a 'global sensation' by beating hosts Portugal 1-0 in the Lisbon final on July 4.
- Euro 2000: 1998 FIFA World Cup winners France lifted the cup of Euro 2000, but they rode their luck in the final against Italy on 2 July 2000. Two players finished level on five goals after Euro 2000: Patrick Kluivert (Netherlands), Savo Milošević (Yugoslavia).
- Euro 1996: Germany won the Euro'96 by defeating the Czech Republic 2-1 and winning their first Euro following reunification at Wembley on 30 June.
- Euro 1992: Denmark defied the odds to beat the newly-reunified Germany 2-0 in the 1992
