These amendments are part of a broader strategy to expand India’s nuclear energy capacity to 100 GW by 2047, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainable energy and climate goals.
«Power sector reforms we will incentivize electricity distribution reforms and augmentation of intrastate transmission capacity by states. This will improve financial health and capacity of electricity companies. Additional borrowing of 0.5% of GSDP will be allowed to states contingent on these reforms. Nuclear energy mission for Viksit Bharat will be launched. Development of at least 100 gigawatt of nuclear energy by 2047 is essential for our energy transition efforts for an active partic partnership with the private sector towards this goal amendments,» said the Finance Minister.
The Centre has further outlined a Rs. 20,000 crore outlay to establish a dedicated Nuclear Energy Mission focused on the research and development (R&D) of SMRs. The mission will be tasked with driving innovation in nuclear technologies, particularly in the domestic development of these next-generation reactors.
The Finance Minister further announced an ambitious target to operationalize at least five indigenously developed Small Modular
