Sheriff confirms Josey High School shooting incidentConfirming the firing incident, Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree said that the incident occurred inside the school. He further said that both the victim and the suspect shooter are students, they got involved in an altercation that resulted in the firing. The authorities are yet to arrest the suspect.
School closedThe school was closed for the day and the parents were asked to report to the football stadium of the school along with their children. The police also secured the nearby Murphey Middle School. Besides, Augusta University was also put on an alert. A large number of policemen armed with tactical gear were deployed near the school and the area was cordoned off. Besides, a central EMS ambulance was also stationed there.
Earlier school shooting incidentsThis is not the first shooting incident in Josey High School. Earlier in September 2022, two people were wounded at the football homecoming festivities. Another firing incident occurred the next day at nearby Augusta high school. A big fight broke out in the nearby Butler High School, a day before the Josey High School incident. Another brawl occurred in Aiken High School on August 3. Earlier on Friday last week, a student threatened a teacher of grave consequences.
