Following the heavy downpour, videos showed waterlogging in front of the new Parliament. In another viral video, a bucket can be seen inside the Parliament complex to collect water dripping from the roof.
Many took to Twitter to comment on the viral videos.
Noted journalist Rajdeep Sardesai wrote, «When our ‘new’ parliament building is water-logged, what chance do we the citizens have? Frankly, the haste with which the new building was constructed, singularly unaesthetic and with no character, while the wonderfully distinctive and charming old parliament building and iconic central hall lie mostly unused, is saddening. Taxpayer monies going literally down the drain.»
Another X user quipped, «The new Parliament that took 971 crores to be ready started leaking after a day’s rain. Unfortunately, they can’t even blame Nehru for this.»
"New Parliament Building made at the cost of Rs 1000 crores. Your taxes are being used well," said another person.
Sharing a video of the waterlogged Parliament complex, another X user dubbed it as «fraud on taxpayers’ money.»
Another Twitter user, sharing the bucket video, said, «The new parliament building even has a rainwater harvesting facility. Direct from clouds to bucket. Simply brilliant.»
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building last May.
