Gulkhand" or "Gulqand," is a traditional Indian delicacy made from rose petals. It is a sweet preserve with a rich aroma and a pleasant, floral taste. But do you know how it is made? Recently, a YouTuber shared a video of the process of making Gulkand.
Vlogger Amar Sirohi, in his YouTube channel foodie_incarnate, showed how 2000 kg of gulkand was made in a Gujarat factory. The video starts with a collection of two quintals of roses. As per Amar, these are special roses that are sourced from Pushkar, Rajasthan.
According to the vlogger, rose petals from Pushkar are known to be best for making gulkand. In the next step, the rose petals are separated from the stem. Then the petals are mixed with very fine sugar.
Then the mixture is transferred to a steel container, where it undergoes natural transformation for about two months to become Gulkand. Gulkand is renowned for its numerous health benefits in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine. It is considered a cooling food and is often used to help balance the body's internal heat, making it popular during the hot summer months.
Gulkand is believed to aid digestion, improve appetite, and provide relief from acidity and heartburn. Additionally, it is said to be beneficial for constipation and is believed to improve blood circulation. It is also said to be a natural remedy to reduce stress and fatigue.
In Indian cuisine, Gulkand is used in various ways. It can be enjoyed on its own as a sweet treat, added to milkshakes, desserts, or used as a filling in traditional sweets like paan (betel leaf) and sandesh (a milk-based sweet). It is also a common ingredient in herbal preparations and Ayurvedic medicines.
