Mamata Banerjee underwent a medical procedure to extract fluid from her knee in state-run SSKM hospital, following an injury she sustained when her chopper ran into bad weather and had to make an emergency landing in North Bengal's Sevoke during her panchayat poll campaign recently. Banerjee had received injuries in her knees and back and had difficulty in walking.
Banerjee reached SSKM hospital at around 2 pm and underwent the medical procedure, people in the know said. The procedure took around 15 minutes and she was kept in a cabin in the Woodburn ward of the hospital, sources in the hospital said.
Experts from the orthopaedic and neurology departments were present during the medical procedure. Banerjee left for her residence late Thursday evening.
«Banerjee underwent a minor knee surgery under anesthesia. She was advised to stay in hospital tonight.
However, she preferred to return home. She has been advised to take rest and her movement will be restricted,» hospital sources said.
