Himanta Biswa Sarma said that several policemen will lose their jobs till 2026. He said that there are 50,000 policemen in the state, out of which 80 percent are good and 20 percent are not good. “At least 10,000 of police personnel are such which requires checking. Action is taken on four and five of them, the list is long. Due to 80 percent good people in police force we are living peacefully here. No violence and explosions and our condition better than some of our neighbouring states.”Hifzur Rahman, a criminal was shot dead in a police encounter near Assam-Meghalaya border on Monday. He had escaped from Silchar Central Jail on May 11. The encounter took place following intelligence inputs. When the police team tried to arrest Hifzur, he attacked the officers following which the police were forced to open fire in which Hifzur was seriously injured and was sent for treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Silchar where he succumbed to his injuries. During the wncounter, two policemen also sustained injuries. In 2011, Hifjur was arrested for killing a father-son duo in Karimganj.
