Bose has approached ISRO for technology to curb ragging in Jadavpur University and all other colleges and University campuses. Bose, who is Chancellor of the Universities, has contacted the Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Somanath for identifying appropriate technology to effectively contain and eliminate the menace of ragging in the University campuses, Raj Bhawan sources informed.
Following the death of a first-year undergraduate student earlier this month, who waas allegedly ragged in a hostel of Jadavpur University, Bose has directed the university to implement UGC guidelines and install CCTVs.
Bose further reached out to the ISRO for identifying an appropriate technology solution to curb the menace of ragging on college and university campuses, a statement issued by Raj Bhavan said.
Bose has also held discussions with a Hyderabad-based firm over the issue.
«ISRO will help us in containing and eliminating ragging in the campuses,» Governor Bose said.
«They are trying to develop an appropriate technology solution using multiple sources such as video analytics, image matching, automatic target recognition and remote sensing,» the governor said in the statement.
«JU VC has been authorised to take the matter forward,» it said.
Jadavpur University interim Vice-Chancellor Buddhadeb Sau said, «I will enquire about the technology-whether it will trace outsiders or use some other technology. How will they do, I have to find out-whether it will be face recognition technology and how outsiders will be traced, by using CCTVs or something else.»
A total of 13 people, including present and former students, have been arrested in connection with the death of the first year student in the varsity.
