Royal Family which has its website has recently deleted a statement by Prince Harry who came down heavily on the British press for their coverage of his then-girlfriend and present wife Meghan Markle.
The statement had once infuriated his father and brother, according to Prince Harry. This statement was issued in November 2016, months after the relationship between Harry and Merkel went public. For years, the statement remained on the website ‘royal.UK’ in which all the statements issued by the members of the royal family are shared. This also includes official announcements. It is believed that the link has been taken down sometime in December 2023.
It was the 'Daily Mail' that first wrote a report with the headline “Harry’s girl is (almost) straight outta Compton: Gang-Scarred home of her mother revealed-so will he be dropping by for tea?”
This headline led to Harry’s Communication Secretary slamming the press for this biased coverage. Merkel hails from Los Angeles. The statement further added that Merkel had been a subject of harassment and abuse. The message further added that Prince Harry felt that he was unable to protect his partner and he was deeply concerned about her safety.
While many pointed out that being a member of the Royal Family does involve a higher level of scrutiny, the Prince pointed out that his partner was entitled to her private life and the press had crossed the line of decency.
The statement was a daring move for
