An astronomical telescope has taken remarkable pictures of YR4 2024, an asteroid referred to as the 'city killer' that may be on a path toward Earth, as quoted in a report by the Daily Star.
The asteroid, believed to be the size of the Statue of Liberty, was reportedly 37 million miles away from striking Earth at the time of the images. NASA astronomer Bryce Bolin stated that only a few asteroids have been studied like this, as per a report.
The asteroid, which is believed to have a diameter of 40 to 90 meters (130 to 300 feet), was first discovered by the University of Hawaii's Institute of Astronomy in late December of the previous year. This rock is comparable in size to the asteroid that caused the Tunguska incident in 1908, with an estimated diameter of 54 meters (177 feet), according to NASA.
The force created by the explosion of eight million tons of TNT, or 500 times the power of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima by the United States at the end of World War II, would be equivalent to the giant mass colliding with Earth.
