The Intern”. And what a find it was.
The movie was completely different from what I was expecting. Contrary to what its name suggests, it’s not about a 20-year-something student joining an internship programme. Instead, it is about a 70-year-old joining an internship under a millennial founder and how these two absolutely different individuals help each other experience growth.
In fact, the movie had numerous valuable career lessons. Here are some notable ones that you might want to check out:
1) There is no age to learn: The heart-warming character of Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower, is highly inspirational. He teaches us that retirement doesn’t mean one has to forcefully stay locked up within the four walls of their house. The moment he sees the opportunity to work as an intern under a CEO almost half his age, he instantly signs up for it without any sense of hesitation.
From his very first day at work, we see him as someone always eager to learn more and form relationships with his fellow colleagues. Surrounded by millennials, he uses each day to learn something new. From digital marketing and e-commerce to social media and several new workplace trends, he seamlessly embraced technological and cultural changes.
