These findings would boost nutritional strategies focusing on vegetarian, vegan and lacto-ovo vegetarian diet. These findings will also enable governments and other entities to fine tune their welfare programs.
In addition to lowering cardiovascular issues such as high blood pressure and cholesterol, the studies also found that the diet had a protective effect against certain types of cancer such as liver, colon, pancreas, lung, prostate, bladder, melanoma, kidney and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This was revealed by the lead author of the study, Dr Angelo Capodici who is a graduate student at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa which is in Italy.

However, this protective effect will be sabotaged by poor dietary choices. Consumption of fruit juices, refined grains, potato chips and even sodas were harmful. Some of these items such as fruit juices had a greater impact on the metabolism in the human body than even white sugar.
