Since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Ukraine has drastically increased its domestic arms production. The country has been able to manufacture an impressive range of military equipment, from missiles to howitzers and drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that 30% of the military equipment used by Ukraine in 2024 was domestically made, showcasing the rapid growth of Ukraine’s defense industry.

Ukraine’s ability to produce weapons efficiently and cost-effectively has allowed the country to outpace Europe in certain sectors. For instance, Ukraine has become a leader in drone production, producing over 1.5 million first-person-view drones in 2024. Additionally, the country produced 2.5 million mortar and artillery shells from January to November 2024, a significant achievement compared to the European Union’s projected production of around 2 million artillery shells for 2025.
Despite soaring defense spending in Europe in recent years, Ukraine’s rapid progress in arms manufacturing remains a major concern.
