Parth Pawar had previously made an unsuccessful electoral debut in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, where he lost from the Maval constituency.

Parth Pawar came into the limelight when he wrote a letter to the then Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, requesting a CBI inquiry into Sushant Singh Rajput's death, contrary to the stance of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government at that time, reported Hindustan Times. Sharad Pawar addressed the national executive meeting of the party in Delhi and also met Rahul Gandhi, while Ajit Pawar claimed that the meeting was illegal and asserted himself as the party president.

Sharad Pawar said his age does not matter as he is still effective be it 82 or 92, at the meeting. The Sharad Pawar faction will approach the Election Commission against the Ajit Pawar faction which already claimed the NCP symbol. The future course of action for Ajit Pawar remains uncertain.

He has made appointments, such as appointing Narendra Rane as Mumbai's working president of the NCP and Deepak Mankar as the Pune city unit, further fueling the factional divide. Amidst the political developments, Uddhav Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the Maharashtra government for its uncertain functioning. “Another day gone and yet one doesn't know who is handling what ministry in the (unconstitutional) Maharashtra government.
