Jordan Chiles became a major part of the Paris Olympics headline after being stripped off a sure-shot bronze medal in the floor exercise event. Chiles was on the verge of attaining her third position and this was already reflected in the final standings, as being shown on-screen at the Olympics venue. However, she was left in tears as the final standings somehow changed and she was dethroned from her third position, losing out on her bronze medal.
Chiles claimed that this was a very unjust decision on the Olympic officials' part as it is heartbreaking for an athlete to experience such an incident, where she was already seen celebrating with her nation's flag, when the standings suddenly changed. This stripping off of her bronze medal is now being linked to the CAS panel that had approached FIG for awarding bronze medals to Romanian athletes, including Jordan Chiles.

However, FIG had turned down this decision and advised that the original decision of the medal awarding should be adhered to, in spite of stern protests from Romania.
The International Gymnastics Federation has been ordered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport's ad-hoc panel to formulate rules and laws so that such an instance is not repeated in the future.
