The series follows Billy Butcher, played by Karl Urban. He is extremely ill and has just a few months to live. This is when he discovers a man-made virus that can kill others. The virus emerges just as Homelander (Anthony Starr) is increasing his efforts to radicalize his supporters to pursue an extremist agenda.
This is also a fight between Butcher and Homelander over Ryan who started as an innocent child who has always been sheltered by his mother (Shantel Van Santen) who did her best to give him the right upbringing.
