Donald Trump concerning his alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 election has encountered a significant delay. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, overseeing the case, granted Special Counsel Jack Smith's request for additional time to propose the proceedings, making it highly unlikely that the trial will commence before the upcoming Election Day.
The case had been temporarily stalled while the Supreme Court deliberated on Trump's claim of immunity. In a ruling delivered last month, the Supreme Court decided that Trump could not be charged for “official acts” conducted during his presidency, as mentioned in a report by Forbes.
However, the justices left much of the interpretation to Judge Chutkan, including deciding which charges could proceed. Notably, the court ruled Trump was immune from charges related to pressuring Justice Department officials to challenge the election results.

With the case now back in her court, Judge Chutkan instructed both the prosecution, led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, and Trump’s defense team to submit a status report. Smith requested an extension until August 30 to present the report, which the judge granted.
