The BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will suspend trading across equities, derivatives, currency markets, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), and electronic gold receipts (EGR) for the holiday on March 31. With markets already closed on Saturday (March 29) and Sunday (March 30), investors are advised to plan their trades accordingly.
Indian stock exchanges follow a five-day workweek, operating from Monday to Friday with trading hours from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. IST. Markets remain shut on weekends and designated public holidays as per the exchanges’ official calendar. Regular trading resumes the next business day after holidays, barring any special sessions announced by the exchanges.
Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant Islamic festival marking the end of Ramadan, is widely observed across India with prayers, charity, and celebrations.

Traders should also prepare for 14 scheduled market holidays in 2025. April will bring three market holidays—Shri Mahavir Jayanti (April 10), Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14), and Good Friday (April 18).
Markets will also be shut on May 1 for Maharashtra Day, followed by closures for Independence Day (August 15) and Ganesh Chaturthi (August 27).
The final quarter of 2025 includes breaks for Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra (October 2), Diwali festivities (October 21-22), and Prakash Gurpurb (November 5). Trading will conclude for the year with a holiday on Christmas (December 25).
