T20 World Cup: Australia's chief selector and coach forced to play, help in warm-up match win
Australia's first Twenty20 World Cup warm-up match took an unusual turn on Tuesday when the team could only field nine players instead of the standard 11 for their game against Namibia, resulting in the chief selector and coach stepping in to complete the squad. The T20 World Cup starts on Saturday and is being held in the United States and the Caribbean. At Trinidad’s Queen’s Park Oval, the Australians secured an easy victory. They restricted Namibia to 119-9 after the African team was sent in to bat. Australia, led by David Warner’s unbeaten 54, chased down the target, scoring 123-3 in just 10 overs, winning by seven wickets. Selection chief George Bailey and fielding coach Andre Borovec, wearing unmarked shirts, joined the field after Australia captain Mitch Marsh won the toss. Bailey, 41, a former international cricketer and one of Australia’s best fielders, and Borovec, 46, a former wicketkeeper for Geelong in the Victorian Premier Cricket league, played as substitutes. Later, Cricket Australia reported that batting coach Brad Hodge and head coach Andrew McDonald also took to the field when Marsh and Josh Hazlewood spent time off.

Average air ticket prices spike 9 pc in Jan-March period: FCM Travel
air ticket prices in India spiked 9 per cent in the first quarter of 2024, primarily on account of general increase in travel demand and «much stronger» economic growth, according to Australian Securities Exchange-listed FCM Travel. At the same time, FCM Travel said there was a 20 per cent jump in the premium class bookings in the January-March period compared to the same period last year, driven by sectors such as manufacturing IT as well as conglomerates. «Domestic air capacity has increased more than 3 per cent but due to the demand in travel, we have seen average ticket prices increase by 9 per cent which is attributed to a much stronger economic growth and a general increase in demand for travel,» said Sunny Sodhi, Managing Director of FCM Travel India. Popular domestic routes for business travel include Delhi to Mumbai, Mumbai to Delhi, and Bengaluru to Mumbai, he added.

The Man Behind Bit-Con
cryptocurrency company nChain was governed by a golden rule of office politics: It was not a good idea to challenge Craig Steven Wright, the chief science officer. At nChain’s London offices, Wright, an Australian computer scientist, was treated as a sort of philosopher king. He wore three-piece suits and drove a Lamborghini. A middle manager would tape Wright’s ramblings about obscure technical matters and then share the recordings with a staff of researchers, who were instructed to turn his musings into patents. Wright’s authority rested on a claim to a kind of divine significance — that he was the mysterious creator of Bitcoin. The original white paper

United Nations resident coordinator dated Sunday, the acting director of the South Pacific island nation’s National Disaster Center said the landslide “buried more than 2000 people alive" and caused “major destruction."Estimates of the casualties have varied widely since the disaster occurred, and it was not immediately clear how officials arrived the number of people affected.Australia prepared on Monday to send aircraft and other equipment to help at the site of a deadly landslide in Papua New Guinea as overnight rains in the South Pacific nation’s mountainous interior raised fears that the tons of rubble that buried hundreds of villagers could become dangerously unstable.Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles said his officials have been talking with their Papua New Guinea counterparts since Friday, when a mountainside collapsed on Yambali village in Enga province, which the United Nations estimates killed 670 people. The remains of only six people had been recovered so far.“The exact nature of the support that we do provide will play out over the coming days," Marles told Australian Broadcasting Corp.“We’ve got obviously airlift capacity to get people there.

Dollar firm ahead of global inflation data
dollar made a steady start to the week, as investors were focused on U.S., European and Japanese inflation data to guide the global interest rate outlook. Foreign exchange trade has been dominated by the hunt for «carry» in recent months, punishing low-rate currencies and supporting the dollar while U.S. data has blown hot and cold and dented policymakers' confidence on the rates outlook.

Former Australia cricketer Shane Watson picks KKR over SRH to lift IPL 2024 title
Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, former Australia cricketer Shane Watson said that the Pat Cummins led-side has a slight advantage but the Knight Riders are favourites to lift the title. KKR finished the league stage on the top of the points table with nine wins, three losses and two no results, giving them 20 points. They earned a direct spot in the final by defeating SRH in the qualifier one. SRH got a second shot at the title in the qualifier two against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and they made the most of it by defeating the Men in Pink by 36 runs. Both teams have been incredible with the bat this season. KKR and SRH have posted six 200-plus totals this season, three each. SRH also made the highest IPL total over, 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). When the tournament is all said and done, it will be looked at as something game-changing, something that could bring a paradigm shift to the way T20s are played and the credit will go to these two teams.

Kolkata and Hyderabad, both famous for biryani, vie for IPL bragging rights
IPL, it has come down to this. The Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Kolkata Knight Riders for this year’s bragging rights. It was probably not the first pick of experts, pre-tournament, to make it to the final, but it was not the last. The primary reason for this is SRH’s acquisition of Pat Cummins. As a bowler, Cummins is world-class, but his efficacy is highest in Test cricket. Cummins can hit a long ball but you would not go as far as putting him in the bowling allrounder category.
