markets UPS Citi Enterprise awards country DLF in talks to buy projects coming up at Aerocity in Delhi
DLF, the country's largest real estate developer, is in discussions with Bharti Realty to acquire under-construction phases of Aerocity in Delhi with a total development potential of 17 million sq ft, according to three sources familiar with the matter. About 5 million sq ft of the total portfolio will be retail, and once completed, the project is expected to generate an annual rental income of ₹5,000 crore. The first phase of Aerocity was also developed by Bharti, but later Canada's Brookfield Asset Management acquired a 51% controlling stake in Rostrum Realty, a real estate joint venture company in which Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Enterprises holds the remaining 49%. «GMR has the lease for the entire area until 2066, and when the bid was invited for the first time, DLF participated, but it was awarded to Bharti. It has again initiated the process to acquire the asset to further strengthen its rental portfolio,» said one person familiar with the matter.

Citizens Waters Election WhatsApp Healthcare social NOT Aid for women not 'revdi'; using taxes for welfare, says Atishi
Delhi government's new scheme, Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, which promises ₹1,000 per month to women above 18 years of age is not «revdi» (freebie) but a social welfare initiative aimed at empowering women and boosting economic liquidity, Delhi finance minister Atishi has said. Speaking to ET, Atishi said AAP government's schemes had been criticised as «revdi» by political opponents but the state government was utilising taxes paid by the people for their welfare. «If we can run the government in fiscal surplus and also give the citizens of Delhi everything (free electricity, water, healthcare and education), why shouldn't we? What is bothering the opponents so much? Atishi presented the Budget 2024-25 on Monday, announcing the programme for women over 18 who are not income-tax payers, have a government employment, or get a pension. According to Delhi government estimates, 45-50 lakh women out of 67 lakh women voters will be eligible under this initiative.

UPS FIVE Universities Justice prevention Courts Bombay HC throws out UAPA case against Saibaba, five others
Bombay High Court has acquitted Delhi University ex-professor GN Saibaba and five others, who were convicted under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, for want of proof apart from procedural flaws. The bench held that the prosecution failed to establish legal seizure of material and could not prove anything incriminating against the accused. The case was «unsustainable in the hands of law», the court said upholding the appeals of the defendants. The bench also said the trial was vitiated by an invalid sanction to prosecute the accused. The trial violated mandatory provisions of law and amounted to failure of justice, a division bench of justices Vinay G Joshi and Valmiki SA Menezes said in the verdict on Tuesday. Saibaba, 54, is wheelchair-bound and has been lodged in Nagpur central jail for years. In May 2014, the former DU professor was arrested by the anti-Naxal operations unit of the Maharashtra Police accusing him of being the 'urban contact' of banned CPI(Maoist).

COST UPS Courts Investigations International GST landscape alarmed: Profiteering concerns pose key challenges for India Inc
anti-profiteering mechanism set up under the GST regime was an initial nudge aimed to ensure that companies passed on the 'benefit' — be it a fall in tax rates, or an enhanced input tax credit — arising from the GST roll-out to the end consumer by way of commensurate reduction in prices. The adjudicating authority, National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA) set up in 2017, had a two-year tenure. But this was extended twice, till November 2022, with the mantle passed on to CCI subsequently. This extension contrasts with international precedents, such as Australia's approach, where similar provisions were enforced, following the introduction of GST, although with a sunset clause. In late January, Delhi High Court, responding to many writ petitions filed by India Inc across sectors from FMCG to real estate, upheld the constitutional validity of the anti-profiteering provisions. It noted that the objective of Section 171 of Central GST Act, which mandates the passing on of GST benefits, is grounded in consumer welfare and equity principles.
