G20 summit, close to 3,500 rooms across big and small hotels in Delhi and Gurgaon have been booked, reported TOI. To cater to the needs of the leaders, over 10,000 hospitality professionals have been instructed to be present across 30 prominent hotels across central and south Delhi, Aerocity and Gurgaon. Delhi Police, Ministry of External Affairs and other embassies have already started security drills almost two months ago, according to TOI quoting a Hyatt Regency Hotel spokesperson. Hotel Arrangements for World Leaders Several luxury hotels across Delhi and other nearby locations have been selected to host the leaders. US President Joe Biden is expected to stay at ITC Maurya while Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to be hosted by Taj Palace. Other hotels such as Shangri La's Eros expected to have UK PM Rishi Sunak and German delegation, The Imperial may host the Australian PM and Indonesian delegation, Taj Mahal to have UAE delegation; Leela Palace expects Saudi Arabia delegation, The Lalit to have Canadian and Japanese delegations, The Claridges expects French president Emmanuel Macron and The Oberoi will host Russian delegation. COST UPS Provident Progressive Gap Circle rates in Delhi to be hiked by 35%? Work in progress to redraw proposal
Delhi government's plan to revise circle rates of residential and commercial areas in the capital is back on the drawing board, reported TOI. According to officials the previous plan prepared by the revenue department proposing the creation of sub-categories in A to H categories of residential areas with multiple slabs of circle rates was returned by the finance department with certain objections and suggestions. «We have decided to carefully study the suggestions and rework our proposal,» said a senior revenue department official. «Since there is a big gap in the existing circle rates and the market rate at which the sale and purchase of properties take place, we will propose a hike of up to 35%. But based on the feedback received from the stakeholders, we will also consider downgrading or upgrading the categories of certain colonies based on their location, facilities and existing market rates,» the official said. Circle rates, or minimum rates for valuation of land and immovable property in the national capital, were last hiked for residential areas in all existing categories in 2014.

Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea by an NGO against any reduction in the age of consent, saying it jeopardises the interest of a large number of child victims of sexual abuse, especially girls. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra issued notice to the Centre and tagged the plea of 'Bachpan Bachao Andolan' with a pending petition filed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The NCPCR had challenged last year's order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court which said that a minor Muslim girl can marry a person of her choice. The apex court on Friday sought the Centre's response on the issue. The plea of NGO, besides seeking a slew of directions and guidelines, has also sought a directive to the courts to refrain from making observations regarding the minor victim's casual relationship and promiscuous attitude while dealing with the criminal proceedings under the POCSO Act.

UPS Citi Target Cooper NCCF procures 2,826 tn onion from farmers for buffer stock; to scale up buying in coming days
NCCF) on Saturday said it has purchased 2,826 tonnes of onion at Rs 2,410 per quintal directly from farmers in the last four days mostly from Maharashtra as it resumed procurement of the bulb for a higher buffer stock. The government enhanced the onion buffer stock target from 3 lakh tonnes to 5 lakh tonnes this year. Two cooperatives, NCCF and NAFED, have been mandated to procure 1 lakh tonnes each directly from farmers at Rs 2,410 per quintal to avoid panic selling amid the imposition of an export curb to control domestic prices. The two cooperatives are also disposing of the government's buffer stock of onion in both wholesale and retail markets to control the rising retail prices of onion, which at present are ruling up to Rs 60 per kg depending on the quality in Delhi and other cities. Speaking with PTI, NCCF Managing Director Anice Joseph Chandra said the cooperative commenced the procurement directly from farmers on August 22 in both Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
