Mukti Joddhas and serving officers of the Bangladeshi armed forces arrived here on Sunday evening to attend the Vijay Diwas celebrations, a defence official said. The Vijay Diwas celebrations on Monday will be attended by West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said. The nine-member delegation is headed by a brigadier-rank officer of the Bangladesh Army, the official said. Six other family members of the delegates are also accompanying them for attending the Vijay Diwas celebrations in Kolkata on December 16, which marks Indian Armed Forces' historic victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, he said.

UltraTech Cement Limited is leveraging inland waterways to transport a large consignment of mineral gypsum via National Waterway 1 (Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river system) in a pilot project that was flagged off by the Minister of Shipping, Ports, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal at G.R. Jetty, Kolkata today. UltraTech is the first cement company in India to leverage National Waterway 1 for gypsum transport at scale. The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Inland & Coastal Shipping Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), supported UltraTech's participation in the pilot. The consignment is being shipped from Haldia port in West Bengal to the Gaighat terminal in Patna, Bihar, and transported to Pataliputra Cement Works, UltraTech’s cement grinding unit in Patna district, Bihar. The use of inland waterways over roadways and railways will result in significant carbon emissions reductions and help decongest roads and rail routes. UltraTech’s participation in the pilot provides a boost to the Central government's efforts to promote the use of inland waterways in the country.

Indian Navy's latest survey ship — INS Nirdeshak — that boasts over «80 per cent indigenous content», reaffirming the naval force's focus towards Aatmanirbharta, is all set to be commissioned at Visakhapatnam on December 18, a senior official said on Friday. The commissioning ceremony will be presided over by Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth. «The Indian Navy is all set to commission its latest survey ship 'Nirdeshak' at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, on December 18,» a Navy spokesperson said. The ceremony will be hosted by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command and attended by distinguished guests, including senior naval officials and GRSE representatives.

Addressing a press conference, Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, said the three warships — INS Nilgiri, INS Surat, INS Tushil — and submarine INS Vagsheer are expected to be commissioned in a month. «We have got four vessels that are due for induction within the next one month,» Singh said. INS Nilgiri is the first ship of Project 17A and was launched in September 2019, he said.
