President Joe Biden warned Sunday of the risks of political violence in the U.S. after Saturday's attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, saying, «It's time to cool it down.» In a prime-time national address from the Oval Office, Biden said political passions can run high but «we must never descend into violence.» The president acknowledged the passions of an election year, and that he and Republicans offer different policy visions, but implored Americans to «recommit» to resolving their differences peacefully. «There is no place in America for this kind of violence — for any violence. Ever. Period. No exception. We can't allow this violence to be normalized,» Biden said.

Trump on Sunday said the US must «stand united» and called for people to show «true character as Americans», remaining «strong and determined», after he survived an assassination attempt during a rally. Trump, 78, survived the attempt on his life on Saturday when a 20-year-old shooter fired multiple shots at him at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, injuring his right ear. The shooting left one person attending the rally dead and two others in serious condition. The suspected shooter was shot and killed by a member of the Secret Service. Taking to his social media platform Truth Social platform, Trump said, «It was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,» CNN reported.

CNN, two radio presenters who got an opportunity to interview US President Joe Biden expressed their surprise that the president could not answer even questions that were pre-approved by his team. The president had the questions given to him before the interview and yet he could not answer coherently. This just adds to a growing number of media reports that have suggested a ‘cognitive decline’ in the US President. A Philadelphia radio show host said that Biden’s team had fed her questions before the interview. She said that the president made certain bizarre claims during the interview. This has been reported by the New York Post.

New York judge on Tuesday delayed Donald Trump's sentencing for his conviction on criminal charges stemming from hush money paid to a porn star until Sept. 18, after the former U.S. president asked for a chance to argue he should have been immune from prosecution. The sentencing had previously been set for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee on July 15. Trump is expected to be his party's nominee to challenge Democratic President Joe Biden in the Nov. 5 election. Trump faces an uphill battle getting the hush money conviction overturned, since much of the conduct at issue in the case predated his time in office. Trump's lawyers on Monday asked Justice Juan Merchan to allow them to argue his conviction in New York state court in Manhattan should be overturned due to the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on July 1 that presidents are entitled to immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts. Prosecutors with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office said Trump's argument was «without merit,» but agreed to delay the sentencing to give Trump the chance to make his case. A Manhattan jury on May 30 found him guilty of falsifying business records to cover up his former lawyer Michael Cohen's $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to stay quiet about an alleged 2006 sexual encounter until after the 2016 election, when Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton.
