IPL 2025 auction: Arshdeep Singh to Yuzvendra Chahal, 5 Indian bowlers in focus
IPL season, Indian bowlers are expected to be in great demand during the IPL Mega Auction 2025. Interestingly, teams this year seem more inclined towards retaining batters rather than bowlers, possibly aiming to secure the best bowlers in the auction to boost their chances of lifting the coveted trophy. Bowlers play a crucial role in the game's outcome, with someone like Jasprit Bumrah being the backbone of Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack, often delivering match-defining performances. In a fast-paced 20-over game, teams need bowlers who can rattle the opposition during the powerplay and death overs, where even a couple of extra runs can tilt the match's outcome. Let’s dive into the top five Indian bowlers likely to ignite bidding wars in the upcoming mega auction. Arshdeep Singh With his impressive skillset and remarkable consistency, Arshdeep Singh has solidified his position as a leader in India’s T20 combination. His T20I records are exceptional, with 95 wickets at an outstanding average of 18.47 in 59 matches. Earlier this year, Arshdeep played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign, claiming 17 wickets in just eight games at a stellar average of 12.47.

MS Dhoni’s famous jersey number 7 and the phrase 'Thala for a reason' have become very popular on social media. Cricket fans have been spreading these memes widely. MS Dhoni, who has led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL titles, addressed the meme in a recent video. When asked about the meme, Dhoni said, «I do know, but I don’t know the reason behind it. That’s what I feel.» He also spoke about his fans, saying, «I’ve got brilliant fans. I don’t need to speak up or say anything; they’re the ones who step up if someone questions me. The Indian Double League: Power play revenues of top IPL franchises rise 2x in FY24
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises more than doubled their revenues for the year ended March 2024, with significant improvements in profitability, largely on the back of increased share from the league’s central revenue pool during IPL 2023. The 10 teams collectively received Rs 4,670 crore from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the IPL 2023 compared to Rs 2,205-crore share from the central pool for the IPL 2022, as per BCCI’s annual report for FY23. “The first eight IPL franchisees have been profitable for more than eight years now and their profits have significantly increased in FY24, and are expected to be at that level going forward due to the media rights renewal in 2022 and the resulting increase in the central pool,” D and P Advisory managing partner Santosh N said.

Winning bet: India Inc players also ace the sports game
sports teams in India saw an up to threefold surge in earnings in 2023-24, with cricket dominating the table, according to the latest filings of their owners such as Reliance Industries, United Spirits, Tata Steel and RPSG Ventures. These companies, which run the sports teams as business ventures through subsidiaries, benefited from a larger central revenue pool of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), showed the filings. The revenue pool mainly comprises money earned by the BCCI from selling the broadcasting rights and a portion of it is shared among the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams. For instance, the total income of Reliance Industries' wholly owned subsidiary Indiawin Sports, which owns the Mumbai Indians cricket team, more than doubled to ₹737 crore in 2023-24 from ₹359 crore in the previous fiscal. The company's net profit was ₹110 crore, compared to a net loss of ₹49 crore in 2022-23. The central rights accounted for three-fourths of the revenue in 2023-24, while nearly 22% came from ticketing sales, said the annual report of Reliance Industries.
