Indian retail space leasing to continue momentum, likely to top 6.5-7 million sq ft in 2024
top seven cities underscoring the sustained appeal of prime locations to retailers led by rising consumption and is expected to continue the momentum until the end of this calendar year. Gross leasing of retail spaces across these cities, including Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, and Hyderabad is projected to exceed 6.5 — 7 million sq ft by the end of 2024 after topping 5.3 million sq ft in the first three quarters ending September, showed a JLL India study. “Despite limited new retail space additions of slightly over 1 million sq. ft, the top seven cities’ robust gross leasing activity indicates retailers' strong appetite for prime retail locations. Fashion and apparel remained the top category with a 37% share, followed by food & beverage and entertainment at 18% and 12% respectively,” said Samantak Das, Chief Economist and Head of Research & REIS, India, JLL.

V Vaidyanathan on how IDFC First Bank is growing@30% despite MFI business stress & infra loan account write-off
V Vaidyanathan, MD & CEO, IDFC First Bank, says the microfinance sector's delinquency has been going up and other than IDFC First, other banks have also been affected. The good thing is IDFC’s delinquency as compared to the rest of the industry, is much less. SMA or pre-NPA is only 2.5% as compared to 3.5% to 4% or maybe 2.7% to 4% for similar banks. Also, now 50% of the portfolio is insured and it will reach 75% by March ‘25. Vaidyanathan also says that they have taken a big write-off on an infrastructure loan candidate who used to collect tolls from cars entering and leaving Mumbai. As the government has announced that no toll will be levied, this company was in dire straits. From next quarter, the name of this account will not be there anymore. Good comes with the bad and for the quarter gone by, there is a lot of good, but there is a lot of bad also. What shall we start with? V Vaidyanathan: We should start with the bad because people will want to hear what really happened this quarter and we need to explain.

Mission Possible: Ingredients are here for India to manufacture AI, lead AI revolution, says Nvidia's Jensen Huang
Artificial Intelligence is making computers an instrument for everyone and not just for the privileged few, believes Jensen Huang, the iconic founder and chief executive of chip maker Nvidia. He allayed the fears that AI could consume jobs or replace humans and said that the technology will make everything more efficient and productive, saving key resources and elevating human capabilities. In a free-wheeling conversation with Sruthijith KK at the ET Conversations event in Mumbai on Friday, Huang, 61, who steered the company out of turbulent early years and turned it into a $3.43 trillion behemoth that it is today, said that he still wakes up fearing that Nvidia could even now go out of business. No one in technology should get too comfortable or complacent, said the top boss helming the world’s second most valued company. His message to India’s IT services industry was unequivocal: Move from the back office to the front office and lead the AI revolution. Edited excerpts: I want to start with a core technical question. How is your leather jacket holding up in the Mumbai heat? (Laughs) It’s fine. Thank you! I enjoy the heat.
