Merchant loan business to do heavy lifting for Paytm

While the September quarter (Q2FY25) earnings had a few positives, such as improved traction in merchant loan disbursals and visible cost control efforts, much of this exuberance stemmed from the company receiving the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI) approval to onboard new customers for its unified payments interface (UPI) application.

T+0 a minus for brokers on Diwali Day
Mumbai: Spare a thought this Diwali for stockbrokers and their staff—they’re feeling a little less cheery this festive season. Blame it on T+0, also known as same-day settlement, and other reforms. Every year, the start of the Hindu calendar year is marked by the Muhurat trading session, a bit of Diwali ceremony carried over from the days of open outcry. Brokers and their employees had asked the BSE and NSE to advance the hour-long session to 10-11 in the morning from the traditional 6-7 pm, as this would allow them to complete post-trading operations by noon and give them enough time to celebrate Diwali with their families on Lakshmi Puja. That request has been rejected by the exchanges, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The NSE Nifty fell 309 points, or 1.25%, to close at 24,472.10. The BSE Sensex declined 930.55 points, or 1.15%, to end at 80,220.72. My presence not needed when talks are between BJP and Shiv Sena: Ajit Pawar
Ajit Pawar on Tuesday said the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led by CM Eknath Shinde, has almost finalised its seat sharing deal for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly elections. «Some seats have been finalised, while a decision on the remaining seats is expected today,» the NCP president told reporters. «There is no reason for me to be present at the meeting when the decision on some seats is to be taken between the BJP and Shiv Sena,» Pawar said, on his absence at the talks between leaders of BJP and Shiv Sena in Mumbai on Monday. The three (party leaders) are present when discussions concern all the three constituents of the Mahayuti alliance, he added. «As some candidates had to keep up with the „muhurat“ for filing of nominations, they have been allotted our party's A and B forms,» Pawar said. The A and B forms are important documents, which denote that a certain candidate has been approved by a political party and should be allotted the election symbol of that party.

After ‘pay Rs 5 crore or else' threat to Salman Khan, man apologizes. How he sent the message
Salman Khan received a threatening message last week, demanding Rs 5 crore to settle an ongoing dispute with notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. However, just a few days later, the sender retracted the threat, claiming it had been sent in error and offered an apology. The original message, sent to the WhatsApp number of the Mumbai Traffic Police control room, was alarming in nature. On October 18, a message was sent to the Mumbai Traffic Police's WhatsApp line, warning that Rs 5 crore was required from Salman Khan to «end a feud with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and ensure his safety.» The message allegedly came from an individual associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, stating that the payment was essential to resolve the conflict between Salman Khan and the gangster. The message contained a grim warning, suggesting that failure to comply could lead to severe consequences for the actor, mentioning the recent killing of politician Baba Siddique.

India most successful IPO market in the world for 2024: Alex Clavel
Mumbai: SoftBank Investment Advisers co chief executive Alex Clavel rates India among its top performing markets, on the back of a spree of public listings by its portfolio firms. “India is the world’s most successful IPO market of 2024,” he said during an exclusive interaction with ET at SoftBank’s office in Mumbai. “Others, including the US, haven’t seen as many IPOs, even outside of tech.” Clavel took over his new role at the Japanese conglomerate a year ago, jointly leading its investing vehicle SoftBank Vision Fund ( SVF) with Rajeev Misra. While Clavel spearheads SVF-II, Misra who stepped away from day-to-day operations in 2022 and later launched One Investment Management, oversees legacy investments from SVF-I. Clavel’s ascension coincided with a tightening of the ship at the Masayoshi Son-founded group after years of exuberance, amid a broader reset in the technology investing world.

Ishan Kishan returns, Ruturaj Gaikwad named captain of India A team for Australia tour
Ishan Kishan returned to the national reckoning as he was on Monday named in a 15-member India A squad, to be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, for the upcoming tour of Australia. Fresh from his fine hundred against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, Maharashtra's Gaikwad was named captain of the India A team. India A will play two first-class matches against Australia A in Mackay and Melbourne and then take part in a three-day intra-squad game against the senior India team in Perth. Apart from Gaikwad, the squad also includes other opening batters like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sai Sudharsan, as India will likely need to name a reserve opener in their Test squad for the upcoming tour of Australia, with captain Rohit Sharma set to miss one of the first two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for personal reasons.
