NEW DELHI : India and Iran have agreed not to seek commercial foreign arbitration for disputes between users and operators at Chabahar Port, paving the way for the two sides to sign a long-term deal for the development of the strategic port, two persons aware of the development said. They said a team from the ministry of port and shipping is expected to visit Iran in September to try and reach an agreement over the rules of engagement and mode of arbitration. This would be followed up with the two countries reaching a formal agreement for long-term operation of the port located in South-east Iran, with an unhindered sea route to India’s West coast.

Refiners imported 79.4 million metric tonnes of crude oil for $41.6 billion during April-July, compared to 81.3 MMT for $64.3 billion in the same period of last fiscal, according to the Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC). This fall in import expense for the refineries and oil marketing companies (OMC) comes in the backdrop of around 30% fall in international crude oil prices.

NEW DELHI : Strong domestic cement demand led to cement companies reporting strong double-digit volume growth during the previous quarter but the limited improvement in realisations and lower-than-expected decline in costs meant that overall performance was a mixed bag. Data compiled by Mint for 42 cement companies showed that the net profit improvement was tepid at 5.8% year-on-year (y-o-y) during Q1. Also, on a sequential basis the net profit declined 12%.

New Delhi: The latest research paper released by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has revealed that covid-19 people above 40 years of age, men with co-morbidities and those individuals who suffered moderate to severe covid-19 were associated with higher odds of post-discharge one-year mortality, whereas 60% protection was conferred by vaccination before the covid-19 infection. Of the 14,419 participants from 31 hospitals across the country who were followed up at least once between four weeks and one year post discharge, 942 (6.5%) had died and the remaining (93.5%) were reported alive at any contact during one year of follow up.
