New Delhi: The river Yamuna in the national capital continues to flow above the danger mark of 205.33 mtr even as the water level has declined since last week. Heavy downpour during 8-9 July, and subsequent rains in upper catchment areas led to the Yamuna swelling to record levels and flooding the city.

The Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, with a capacity of 1500 MW, contributed 39.527 MU, while the Rampur Hydro Power Station, with a capacity of 412 MW, generated 10.971 MU.

NEW DELHI : India, one of the world’s largest cotton producers, risks becoming a net importer after both exports and production registered a record decline in the current financial year amid weak demand for textile products in the West due to the long-drawn Ukraine war. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) expects India’s cotton exports to slip to its lowest in 19 years during the current crop season between October 2022 and September 2023 as it expects farmers to shift to other profitable crops such as oilseeds and pulses.

New Delhi: The fourth Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) meeting under India’s G20 Presidency will be held in Goa from 19 July, the ministry of power said on Tuesday. The two-day meeting will bring together over 100 delegates from G20 member countries, special invitee countries, and several international organisations, it added.

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has constituted a committee of experts to carry out safety inspection of the Bengaluru-Mysuru Access Controlled Highway. The committee is currently visiting the site and will conclude their study by 20 July. It will submit the report within 10 days after the conclusion of the visit, the ministry of road transport & highway said.

Pernod Ricard's plea seeking a renewal of its liquor sale licence in New Delhi, marking the latest legal setback in the French giant's attempt to restart sales in the city, news agency Reuters reported on Tuesday.India's federal financial crime agency Enforcement Directorate has accused the company of illegally making profits by giving false information to Delhi city authorities in 2021, and violating rules by financially supporting retailers in exchange for stocking more of its brands. Pernod has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.

India plans to further relax its approach to data storage, processing and transfer beyond its borders, a boon for global companies such as Alphabet Inc.’s Google as well as Indian firms seeking growth abroad. A draft version of a new privacy bill allows companies to export data to any country except those specifically named by New Delhi, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be named as the bill isn’t yet public. A previous draft released publicly in November, conversely, restricted the export of data to all regions except those named by the government.

New Delhi: Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia and India’s Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) will train 300 people in 5G, IoT and allied skills at the Nokia Centre of Excellence which was inaugurated at ITI Kubernagar, Gujarat, Monday.   The centre is setting up a skill lab for training of the candidates with the aim of providing placement offers within 4-6 weeks of course completion to at least 70% of learners. About 300 such candidates will benefit from the program in the first year of the project.   “As part of our larger commitment to local communities, we are facilitating connectivity and digitization to further positive socio-economic, educational and health impacts in India.

New Delhi: The ministry of electronics and IT, the nodal ministry regulating online gaming, will ask the GST Council to reconsider its decision of levying 28% tax on online gaming after the regulatory framework around the online gaming rules develops, minister of state Rajeev Chandrasekhar said Monday at an event.   “We are only in the nascent stages of creating a sustainable, permissible online gaming framework. So we will do that and go back to the GST Council and maybe request their consideration on the new regulatory framework," he said.   The GST Council on July 11 said that the government will impose a goods and service tax of 28% on the turnover of online gaming companies, horse racing and casinos.   Chandrasekhar added that the GST Council, which was a federal body had been working on the issue for the past three years while the regulatory framework for online gaming only began in January 2023.  “The GST Council is not the Government of India. The council is represented by all state governments.

New Delhi: Paris-headquartered independent content creation company Banijay Group has bought out media-focussed venture capital fund CA Media’s 49% stake in one of India’s leading production studios Endemol Shine India post a three-year arbitration process. CA Media initially picked up 49% in Endemol Shine India, the producer of reality shows such as Bigg Boss, Fear Factor Khataron Ke Khiladi and The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, in March 2012 for around $20-25 million.

NEW DELHI : Large rice companies, traders and exporters are rushing to secure letters of credit (LCs) for future shipments, fearing that rising prices may trigger export curbs on non-basmati varieties, three people aware of the matter said. Securing LCs will enable these entities to export rice varieties even after the announcement of a ban, as seen earlier in the case of the ban on broken-rice exports in September last year. Concerns of export curbs and the additional LCs may push up India’s overall rice exports in July.

Financial Stability Board Monday proposed global rules for crypto firms mandating introduction of safeguards to prevent casualties such as exchange collapse. The recommendations, issued at the direction of G20, also revised its existing recommendations for stablecoins. The FSB published the final proposals requested by the G20 on supervising firms that trade cryptoassets such as bitcoin.

NEW DELHI : India and Iran plan to step up operationalizing the International North South Trade Corridor (INSTC) in a move to boost trade with Russia, according to Mohammad Miri, an advisor to the Chabahar Free Zone in Iran. Following up on earlier agreements, a trial shipment to test trade links from Russia to India will be attempted in the next 6-8 months. The shipment will go through the strategically vital Chabahar Port, while an earlier shipment in 2022 went through the more established Bandar Abbas port.
