Climate-vulnerable countries push for credit rating overhaul
The U.N. meeting in New York is the second of four to set goals for a major finance conference in Spain next year, where heads of state will look to step up efforts to meet the world's climate and sustainability targets. At the forefront of the talks are 39 so-called Small Island Developing States (SIDS) — including Cuba, Haiti, Fiji and the Maldives — that are bearing the brunt of increasing tropical storms, flooding, erosion and rising sea levels.

Sri Lankan Navy apprehended eight Indian fishermen and captured two boats off the coast of Ramanathapuram on Sunday morning. The apprehended fishermen who belong to Ramanathapuram have been identified as Mangadu Bhatrappan (55), Reddayurani, Kannan (52), Chinna ReddayurMuthuraj (55), Agasthiyar Kutam Kali (50) and Thangachimad Yasin (46), Jesus, Uchipulli Ramakrishnan and Velu including 8 fishermens was arrested and taken to the Kangesanturai Naval Camp. According to the Mandapam Fishermen Association, the apprehended fishermen had gone to the sea from Mandapam. They were fishing in Palk Bay sea area when the Sri Lankan Navy came to the area early this morning claiming that the fishermen had crossed the border.

deep depression over east-central Bay of Bengal intensified into cyclonic storm 'Dana' on Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The storm is likely to move in a northwestward direction, intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal and cross the Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island in the early hours of October 25 with wind speeds of up to 120 kmph, the IMD added. The system lay 560 km southeast of Paradip and 630 km south-southeast of Sagar Island at 5.30 am, it said. Advising fishermen not to venture into the sea from October 23 to 25, the Met warned that wind speed is likely to reach 60 kilometres per hour (kmph) along and off Odisha-West Bengal coasts from October 23 and gradually increase to 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph, from October 24 night till October 25 morning.
