Bitcoin (BTC) is consolidating above $35,000 at the start of the week as traders take stock of recent dovish US macro developments (last week’s weak US jobs and manufacturing PMI data, plus Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s unconvincing attempt trying to convince the market that more rate hikes may lay ahead), which some think could power the next leg higher in the BTC price.

Higher for longer: Why are central banks keeping interest rates elevated?
interest rates elevated. What does higher for longer mean? Over the past year, various central bankers including Reserve Bank of India governor Shaktikanta Das and US Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell have said that tackling high inflation may need interest rates being kept higher for longer. Financial markets, however, had predicted that central banks would start cutting rates by the end of 2022, less than a year after the hiking cycle commenced. Indeed, data shows that the Fed started cutting rates only eight months after its previous hiking cycle ended in December 2018.

Crypto Price Today: Bitcoin jumps over $35,300 after Fed keeps rates unchanged; crypto market cap crosses $1.3 trillion
The cryptocurrency markets were trading higher in Thursday's trading after the US Federal Reserve kept rates unchanged and Chair Jerome Powell hedged on the possible end of the rate hiking cycle. The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady on Wednesday as policymakers struggled to determine whether financial conditions may be tight enough already to control inflation, or whether an economy that continues to outperform expectations may need still more restraint. After the end of a two-day policy meeting, Powell said the better course of action for now, given the uncertainties, was to maintain the Fed's benchmark overnight interest rate in the current 5.25%-5.50% range, and see how job and price data evolve between now and the next policy meeting in December. Meanwhile, after the Fed's decision, the global cryptocurrency market cap surged by 2.45% to over $1.3 trillion in the last 24 hours.

Asian shares rise as markets look for early rate cuts
Asian shares rallied for a fourth straight session on Monday after markets moved to price in earlier rate cuts in the United States and Europe, bullish wagers that will be tested by a swarm of central bank speakers this week. Battered bond markets also enjoyed a welcome recovery as a benign U.S. payrolls report and upbeat productivity numbers suggested the labour market was cooling enough to obviate the need for further rate hikes from the Federal Reserve. «This year's better-than-expected U.S.

More tradition than coincidence, the Christmas season is around the corner again and the market is looking good for yet another run. Bitcoin (BTC) surged to more than $35,000 in October, another record high for 2023. The year-long rally has been attributed to unconventional market trends, including excitement over the Bitcoin spot ETF applications pending with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
