Bitcoin, most cryptos traded sideways following Fed Chair’s hawkish comments
crypto market displayed a sideways trend, influenced by various industry developments and macroeconomic factors. Bitcoin started trading at the $26,000 mark and briefly surged above $27,000. However, it faced resistance around the $27,500 level, leading to a subsequent downward movement. Presently, BTC is trading at approximately $26,600. If BTC continues its decline, it may retest the support zone at $25,400. Despite experiencing a 60% decline from its all-time high, BTC has posted a 2.34% gain month-to-date and a remarkable 60% increase year-to-date. Additionally, this week the U.S. Federal Reserve convened for a meeting to discuss interest rate hikes. Fed Chair Jerome Powell indicated that the central bank would consider additional rate hikes if the economy continues to outperform expectations. The benchmark interest rate presently remains in the range of 5.25% to 5.50%. Concurrently, market participants are reacting to the U.S. benchmark 10-year note yields reaching 4.490%, the highest level since November 2007. These events have induced a bit of bearish sentiments in the markets. Similarly, Ethereum (ETH) has mirrored BTC's movements. ETH encountered bearish momentum below the $1,600 level. A breakthrough above the $1,620 resistance could propel its price toward $1,650, while a failure to clear immediate support may lead to a decline towards the $1,565 level. In an interesting turn of events, Germany's largest lender, Deutsche Bank, announced a collaboration with Swiss startup Taurus to establish digital asset custody and tokenization services, highlighting the growing involvement of traditional financial institutions in the crypto space.

One year of Nord Stream explosions: Reports allege Ukrainian role
Nord Stream pipelines, cutting off a major route for Russian gas exports to Europe and reports allege that Ukrainians may have played a role in this. The blasts occurred in the economic zones of Sweden and Denmark, so both countries launched investigations into the incident. So far, they say the explosions were deliberate, but they have yet to single out who was behind the blasts, according to a report in Aljazeera. On September 26, 2022, several underwater blasts ruptured three of the four pipelines comprising Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, throwing vast amounts of gas into the Baltic Sea near Bornholm, Denmark. “Dutch military intelligence warned the CIA of a Ukrainian plan to blow up the pipelines three months before the attack, Dutch broadcaster NOS and Germany’s Die Zeit and ARD reported in June.

Tigst Assefa shatters the women's marathon world record by more than 2 minutes in Berlin
Tigst Assefa broke the women's world record by more than two minutes Sunday at the Berlin Marathon, as Eliud Kipchoge won the men's race for the fifth time but couldn't break his own record. Ethiopian runner Assefa, the winner in Berlin a year ago, ran 2 hours, 11 minutes, 53 seconds to break the previous women's record of 2:14:04 set by Brigid Kotsgei at the Chicago Marathon in 2019. Kipchoge ran alone from 32 kilometers (20 miles) onward but slowed slightly toward the end. His time of 2 hours, 2 minutes, 42 seconds was more than a minute and a half off the record he set in Berlin last year. Kipchoge broke the two-hour barrier in Vienna in 2019 when he ran 1:59:40 but it was not officially considered the world record.

‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ Season 2: This is what we know so far
Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ as strikes hit Hollywood. The renewal was announced in January after the first season's debut on November 23, 2022, but viewing data wasn't released. The cancellation follows similar decisions due to strikes, including Amazon Prime Video's 'The Peripheral' and 'A League of Their Own.' The strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) began on May 2, causing ‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ to fall behind schedule for season two. Peacock and Amazon Prime Video have made similar renewal reversals during the pandemic. Negotiations have resumed between WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), raising hopes for a resolution to the labor dispute. The strike has been ongoing for five months, nearing the guild's previous record of 154 days in 1988. ‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ featured Adam Devine, reprising his role as Bumper Allen from the 'Pitch Perfect' film series. He portrayed the leader of an all-male a cappella group, attempting to revive his music career in Germany. The show also starred Flula Borg, Sarah Hyland, Lera Abova, and Jameela Jamil. Megan Amram from 'The Good Place' served as showrunner and executive producer alongside Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, Devine, and more from 'Pitch Perfect 2.'

Senior Living in India: An opportunity gone abegging
The demographic dividend that India intends to exploit, on its stated intent, to be the third largest economy in the world would suffer a major loss, if living for senior citizens is not included into the plans today. Countries like Japan, Monaco, Italy, Germany etc. are consciously wrapping their policies around their aging population. While many developed nations have a third of their population over the age of 60, India’s elderly population is likely to rise to 41% over next decade and expected to touch around 194 mn.

Food prices that drove inflation are on a retreat, says DEA; highlights August rain deficit may impact crops
economic review for August published on Friday, the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) said that the prices of selected food items that drove the inflation rate above 7 per cent in July are on the retreat. «The calibrated measures taken by the Government, including adjustments in the duties of many critical inputs and monetary policy tightening, helped to reduce core inflation,» the DEA said in its report. In its report, the department specified that the government's targeted measures for specific crops, including build-up of buffer, procurement from producing centres and subsidized distribution enabled easing of inflation in the country. Amid growing food inflation in major economies inter alia France, Germany, Japan, South Africa, and UK, India on the other hand saw a dip in its retail inflation. As of August, consumer food price inflation eased to 9.9 per cent from 11.5 per cent in July. Vegetable inflation, however, surged in both July and August due to various factors including a sudden price rise in tomatoes and other food items, due to crop specific and weather-related factors like rain deficiency in the country. Nonetheless, the average inflation during April-August 2023, was 5.6 per cent, which is within the RBI tolerance limit of 2-6 per cent. Meanwhile, the economy's outlook report highlighted that the monsoon deficit in August could impact both Kharif and Rabi crops which requires assessment.

ESMA pitches '17 MoU with RBI for clearing houses
ESMA) is said to have proposed to the Reserve Bank of India to continue their existing Memorandum of Understanding on the treatment of clearing houses, a step that could resolve roadblocks to billions of dollars' worth of bond trading. The latest communication by Europe's top financial markets regulator to the RBI, made earlier this month, comes amid a standoff between the Indian central bank and European authorities over the latter's requirement of rights of audit and inspection of domestic clearing houses, including The Clearing Corporation of India Ltd (CCIL). «Around two weeks ago, ESMA put forward the idea of continuing with the current MoU that is in place. The existing framework does have certain provisions for oversight but within a clearly defined understanding that nothing would be done bypassing the RBI,» a person aware of the development said. «The root of the disagreement that broke out since last year is the EMIR (European Market Infrastructure Regulation) 2 which has far greater provisions of foreign oversight over domestic clearing houses.
