We can definitely restore peace, Manipur is home to 34 tribes and we all must stand together: CM Biren Singh
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday reaffirmed his government's commitment to restoring peace, highlighting that the state is home to 34 recognised tribes. Speaking at the 78th Independence Day celebrations at Ist Manipur Rifles ground here, Singh attributed the ongoing unrest to external elements seeking to destabilise the state. Reflecting on the ongoing conflict, Singh reiterated that Manipur belongs to all 34 recognized tribes, including Thadou, Hmar, Simte, Meitei, Tangkhul, Mao, Maram, Anal, and Lamkang. «This Manipur is not for one community. We must all stand together for a united and strong India,» he added. Despite recent challenges, Singh expressed confidence in the state's future. «Had it not been for May 3, 2023 violence, the progress and development Manipur would have achieved now would be unimaginable. However, we are committed to working harder to make up for the lost time,» he concluded.

A gallery that tells why antique textiles are living traditions only in India
phulkari embroidery, cholis with kaanchi (mirror embroidery) from Gujarat, brocade on quilt covers and saris, tie-and-dye odhanis, Naga shawls, jamdanis, telia rumal from Andhra Pradesh and batik rumal from West Bengal—all introducing the viewer to ancient textiles starting from the 18th century. (Unlike painting, when it comes to textiles, something that belongs to 18th century is considered ancient, because cloth is more delicate and tends to perish faster.) Then the gallery takes a turn into the modernisation of traditional textiles, highlighting pieces from the Vishwakarma exhibitions, led by the late Martand Singh from the 1970s onwards. These shows were a series of seven textile art and history exhibitions from 1982-92 that documented the introduction of design to crafts communities.

Indian investors value sustainability but struggle to access trustworthy data: Deloitte
Indian institutional investors now consider sustainability information essential in their due diligence process, a study by Deloitte and The Fletcher School at Tufts University said, adding as sustainability becomes more integral to investment management, trust in the ESG data used to inform these decisions is lacking, posing challenges in accessing trustworthy data. «According to Indian investors, the inconsistency or incomparability of ESG rating data (73 per cent), cost constraints on integrating ESG data into investment decision models (71 per cent) and lack of measurable outcomes in corporate disclosures (70 per cent) reduce the trust factor of available sustainability data, inhibiting their ability to implement ESG investment strategies,» Deloitte said citing its study titled 'Investor trust in sustainability data'. The study further highlights that Indian investors are more likely to trust in-house proprietary data systems and audited (or assured) corporate disclosures for sustainability analysis. However, as compared with global investors, Indian investors are less likely to rely on external data sources and ratings.

Communist Party of India General Secretary D Raja said the prime minister's speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India's 78th Independence Day did not place any issue before the nation to unite and inspire people. «Whatever he spoke is in line with the sinister, divisive agenda of RSS,» Raja told PTI. «The prime minister speaks about 2047 but he failed to address the issues of plurality, and diversity of the nation. Isro to launch EOS-8 satellite with SSLV-D3 on August 16
Isro will launch Earth Observation Satellite-8 (EOS-8) using its recently built small satellite launch vehicle, SSLV-D3. Isro announced on X that the launch is slated for «August 16 in a launch window of one hour starting at 09:17 Hrs (IST)». This is the third and last development flight from Sriharikota for SSLV. «It brings the SSLV development project to a close and opens up operational missions for NSIL and Indian industry,» Isro said. Following a successful liftoff, the SSLV project will be initiated in accordance with NSIL's and the industry's operational and commercial requirements. Compared to PSLV, which takes more than a month to assemble and requires more workers, SSLV is a smaller version of PSLV that can be put together in a matter of days with fewer workers. Since SSLV is an affordable launch vehicle, it would increase the number of Isro's commercial launches and aid India in gaining a larger market share in the space launch services industry worldwide, which was valued at $14.9 billion in 2023 and is projected to expand at a 14.6% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2024 to 2030.
