PUMA India has signed a deal with the Athletics Federation of India to become its official kit sponsor, the sports brand said on Thursday. Puma signed a multi-year deal to exclusively supply performance kits, speed suits and travel gear to every athlete under AFI representing India in track & field, jumps, throws, cross country running and marathons at both domestic and international tournaments, said the company in a press release. With the partnership, several international stars such as Neeraj Chopra (javelin throw), Kishore Kumar Jena (javelin throw), Parul Chaudhary (steeplechase), Subha Venkatesan (4x 400 m relay), Murali Sreeshankar (long jump), Jyothi Yarraji (hurdle), Priyanka Goswami (race walk) and Jeswin Aldrin (long jump) will benefit from PUMA’s gear across sporting events. Kitting under this partnership does not include Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

Addressing an election rally in Sitamarhi Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, the former BJP president slammed the Congress-led opposition for «raising fear about Pakistan's atomic power». «When Article 370 was scrapped, Rahul Gandhi had said that it would lead to bloodshed. Five years have elapsed and not a pebble has been hurled. But Congress's ally Farooq Abdullah tries scaremongering by saying that we cannot take back PoK as Pakistan has atom bombs,» Shah asserted. «I wish to declare from the birthplace of Goddess Sita that Bharat and its 140 crore people fear no one. Pakistan occupied Kashmir is ours and it will remain so. We will take it back,» he said.

software firm Zoho is planning a foray into chipmaking and seeking incentives from the federal government, two sources with direct knowledge of the proposal said, with one of them pegging the investment plan at $700 million. Zoho, established in 1996 and now headquartered in India's Tamil Nadu, offers software and related services on subscription to businesses in 150 countries, competing with the likes of Microsoft and Salesforce.

UPS Provident Action reports recommendations NCBC wants West Bengal, Punjab to raise OBC reservations as quota limit remains unused
National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) has reportedly asked the West Bengal and Punjab govts to raise the share of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in reservations as the two states are still not fully using the 50% reservation limit. In West Bengal, the total reservation for SCs/STs and OBCs for govt employment and education is 45% while in Punjab the same is at 37% and 35% respectively, NCBC noted. The commission, as per the report in the Times of India, thus recommended that the two opposition ruled states to enhance without delay the quota for OBCs to make full use of the limit permitted under the Supreme Court-mandated 50% cap. NCBC has recommended the West Bengal govt to increase the quota for OBCs by 5% in government employment and educational institutions. For Punjab, the commission suggested an increase of 13% in government employment and 15% in education.

merchandise exports are expected to increase about USD 60-70 billion to USD 500 billion by the end of FY25, apex exporters' body FIEO said on Thursday. In 2023-24, exports dipped over 3 per cent to USD 437 billion. Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) President Ashwini Kumar also said the country's services exports are also likely to reach USD 390-400 billion this fiscal. «We are looking for merchandise exports between USD 500-510 billion in 2024-25. In the services, we expect exports to be around USD 390-400 billion for the current fiscal,» Kumar told reporters here.
