Project connecting India to Europe via Middle East 'largest cooperation project' in history: Netanyahu
Netanyahu has described it as the «largest cooperation project in our history» that will «change the face of the Middle East, Israel, and will affect the entire world». The new economic corridor, which many see as an alternative to China's Belt and Road Initiative, was jointly announced on Saturday by the leaders of the US, India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy and the European Union on the sidelines of the G20 summit in New Delhi. In a video message released late Saturday evening, Netanyahu said that Israel is at the focus of an unprecedented international project that will link infrastructure from Asia to Europe. «I welcome the statement that was released today by the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the European Union, as well as France, Italy and Germany,» Netanyahu said. «A good week to you, citizens of Israel.

Morocco mourns quake victims as death toll passes 2,000
earthquake that killed more than 2,000 people, as rescue teams raced to find survivors trapped in the rubble of flattened villages. The strongest-ever quake to hit the country has killed at least 2,012 people and injured over 2,059, many of them critically, according to the latest official figures. Friday's 6.8-magnitude quake struck 72 kilometres (45 miles) southwest of the tourist hub of Marrakesh, wiping out entire villages in rural areas. «I've lost everything», said Lahcen, a resident of the mountain village of Moulay Brahim, whose wife and four children were killed. Rescue workers recovered the bodies of Lahcen's three daughters from the rubble of what was once their home, but have not yet found the bodies of his wife and son. «I can't do anything about it now, I just want to get away from the world and mourn.» Troops and emergency services have scrambled to reach remote mountain villages where victims are still feared trapped. Al-Haouz province, where the epicentre of the earthquake was located, suffered the most deaths with 1,293, followed by the province of Taroudant with 452.First funerals Bouchra, another resident of remote Moulay Brahim village, dried her tears with her scarf as she watched men digging graves to bury the victims. «My cousin's grandchildren are dead», she said in a knotted voice. «I saw the devastation of the earthquake live, and I'm still shaking.

‘Indian-Middle Eastern economic corridor will revive ancient Red Sea’, says William Dalrymple
G20 Summit will give a global focus to the ancient Red Sea from India to Egypt, which he also mentioned in his new book called “The Golden Road". In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Willian Dalrymple said, “With the announcement today of the opening of an Indian-Middle Eastern Economic Corridor at G20, it looks the ancient trade routes up the Red Sea from India to Egypt that I am writing about in my new book, The Golden Road, and previewed here in @nybooks, will again become a global focus of economic and cultural exchange." In a book review named ‘Garum Masala’ in The New York Post, Dalrymple wrote, “In March 2022 a team of American archaeologists was excavating a temple of the Egyptian goddess Isis at the ancient site of Berenike, on the shores of the Red Sea in modern-day Egypt, when they stumbled across a series of remarkable finds." India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor including shipping and railway links will be launched soon.

G20 members to back EU-Mid East-India trade plan
G20 partners will unveil ambitious plans Saturday to bolster trade between India, the Middle East and Europe, the United States said — a modern-day Spice Route that could more closely bind three regions that account for about a third of the global economy. Washington, Saudi Arabia, the EU, UAE and others will sign an agreement on the sidelines of the G20 summit to explore a railway and port project to augment trade flows between Europe and India, officials said.Track all the live updates here The agreement comes with Washington actively engaging with Riyadh, a major oil producer and security partner, as it encourages the kingdom to normalise ties with Israel. Jon Finer, US deputy national security advisor, said the announcement came after «months of careful diplomacy, quiet, careful diplomacy, bilaterally and in multilateral settings». Finer said the plan could include shipping and rail transportation projects to «enable the flow of commerce, energy and data from here in India across the Middle East to Europe». This project «has enormous potential» he said.

Scientists grow whole model of human embryo without sperm or egg
Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel created the complete models of human embryos from stem cells cultured in the lab — and managed to grow them outside the womb up to day 14. The research, published in the journal Nature, shows that these synthetic embryo models had all the structures and compartments characteristic of this stage, including the placenta, yolk sac, chorionic sac and other external tissues that ensure the models' dynamic and adequate growth. The stem cell-derived human embryo model «closely mimics the development of a real human embryo, particularly the emergence of its exquisitely fine architecture,» said Jacob Hanna, a professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science. The scientists did not use fertilised eggs or a womb. Rather, they started out with human cells known as pluripotent stem cells, which have the potential to differentiate into many cell types. Some were derived from adult skin cells that had been reverted to «stemness.» Others were the progeny of human stem cell lines that had been cultured for years in the lab, they said. The researchers then reprogrammed pluripotent stem cells to revert these cells to an even earlier state — known as the naive state — in which they are capable of specialising into any type of cell. This stage corresponds to day 7 of the natural human embryo, around the time it implants itself in the womb. The scientists divided the cells into three groups.

Palestinian Authority Fights Its Own People in Struggle to Survive
TULKAREM, West Bank—When Palestinian security forces last week tried to remove barricades preventing Israeli soldiers from entering a refugee camp, local residents were incensed. A resulting gunfight between militants and Palestinian security forces ended with a 25-year-old man shot dead and a growing sense of resentment among ordinary Palestinians who see their government as inept, corrupt and, some say, a collaborator with Israel in occupying the West Bank.
