Diane Francis: Lavish condo purchased for consul general in New York epitomizes Trudeau's profligacy
Last week was a busy one for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Leaks undermining his finance minister surfaced, as did reports that he was courting former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney. But the biggest splash was in the New York Post, which reported that Canada quietly spent US$6.63 million (C$9 million) to buy a lavish condo overlooking Central Park on Billionaires’ Row in Manhattan, which we later learned is meant to house our consul general, former broadcaster Tom Clark.

moon. It is at least 150 meters deep and could be an ideal base for humans to build a permanent base on the lunar surface. The Scientists said the underground cave appears to be accessible from an open pit in the Sea of Tranquility, just 250 miles (400 kilometres) from the site where the Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first set foot on the moon in1969.The finding, which first appeared in the journal Nature Astronomy, said that two Italian researchers--Lorenzo Bruzzone and Leonardo Carrer at the University of Trento—discovered the caves by analyzing the radar data collected by NASA’s lunar reconnaissance orbiter (LRO).The Italian researchers said the analysis of radar data collected by LRO established that the Mare Tranquillitatis pit leads to a cave which is 45 metres wide and up to 80 metres long.Analysis of radar data collected by Nasa’s lunar reconnaissance orbiter (LRO) revealed that the Mare Tranquillitatis pit, the deepest known pit on the moon, leads to a cave 45 metres wide and up to 80 metres long, an area equivalent to 14 tennis courts.

At Euro final, form followed function
Adam Driver playing the role of car manufacturer Enzo Ferrari tells his son, 'In all life, when a thing works better, usually it is more beautiful to the eye.' On Sunday night, it wasn't an iconic Italian sports car we saw confirming Ferrari's wisdom of form following function, but the Spanish national team in the Euro football final against England. The 2-1 victory does justice to how the two sides shared momentum.

Are football's big games the riskiest gig in music?
There is a gig. It is a very short gig: a tight six minutes or so. It is also unpaid. In exchange, though, the offer promises exposure that borders on priceless: a live crowd of about 70,000, and a captive television audience in the hundreds of millions. The appeal of serving as the pregame entertainment at one of European soccer's twin showpieces — the finals of the Champions League and the European Championship — is so obvious, and the benefits of that brief performance so extravagant, that the likes of Camila Cabello, Alicia Keys and the Black Eyed Peas (albeit without Fergie) have signed up to do it.

2 Indian nationals arrested in Italy for enslaving 33 countrymen on farms
Verona province, according to a media report, weeks after the country was shocked by the tragic death of a Sikh farm worker who bled to death. The two alleged gangmasters were arrested on Saturday and are under investigation for crimes, including enslavement and labour exploitation, the Italian news agency said. The issue of modern forms of slavery in Italy recently came to the fore of media attention following the case of 31-year-old Sikh farm labourer Satnam Singh, who bled to death after being abandoned by his employer after a strawberry wrapping machine severed his arm in Lazio, near Rome, last month.

Euro 2024: Misfiring England faces on-form Switzerland for a semifinal spot
England will play Switzerland in the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 on Saturday. England faced criticism from fans who thought the team underperformed in its extra-time win over Slovakia, while Switzerland exceeded expectations by knocking out defending champion Italy. The winner will play either the Netherlands or Turkey in the semifinals. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. local (1600 GMT) in Duesseldorf. Here's what to know about the match: Match facts — England is playing its fourth quarterfinal game at a major tournament under England manager Gareth Southgate and won two of the previous three. Southgate's cautious tactics have brought hefty criticism from England fans, some of whom threw plastic cups at him in the group stage. — Jude Bellingham's last-minute overhead kick to send England's last-16 game with Slovakia to extra time was one of the most dramatic moments of Euro 2024 so far. Defender John Stones said Thursday that surviving that brush with elimination gave the team new confidence.
