Not even far-flung Antarctica could escape the covid virus
Covid was not supposed to get to Antarctica. If any place had a hope of keeping the virus out, it would be a continent with no permanent residents and an annual visiting population of only 5,000. And every control measure was in place—testing, a strict quarantine of everyone visiting, deep sanitation, masks and social distancing.

KKR won the match by a huge margin with New Zealand-based wicket-keeper (now retired) Brendon McCullum smashing a 150+ record breaking highest individual score.

CT in Pakistan: ICC will never ask BCCI to go against its own government's policy
Champions Trophy in Pakistan remains an option as India's participation cannot be decided by the ICC if there is a government policy against it, a source in the governing body's all-powerful executive board told PTI on Friday. The ICC board meeting is currently underway in Dubai. The Champions Trophy, which will be held in February-March 2025, is not on the agenda but newly-elected PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has stated that he wants to speak with his BCCI counterpart Jay Shah as well as ICC bigwigs on the sidelines, seeking some kind of assurance. However, an ICC Board member, who is privy to the developments, feels that any decision by BCCI, will only be taken closer to the tournament and once again, the idea of using UAE as a potential venue cannot be entirely discarded.

Cockpit Mishap Might Have Caused Plunge on Latam Boeing 787
A cockpit seat mishap might have pushed a pilot into the controls on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner that took a sudden, terrifying plunge on a flight to New Zealand this week, according to U.S. industry officials briefed on preliminary evidence from an investigation of the incident. A Latam Airlines flight attendant hit a switch on the pilot’s seat while serving a meal, leading a motorized feature to push the pilot into the controls and push down the plane’s nose, these officials said.

Summer prediction: Stormy with tonnes of wanderlust!
Indian travellers are buckling up for a sizzling summer season this year with early indicators from travel companies suggesting exponential demand. Bookings for the country's peak summer period of April-June are already 30-40% higher compared to last year. Officials at domestic airlines told ET that while Indians will be out in full force for the summer season, an inadequate number of flights is likely to trigger a spike in air fares. At online travel company Cleartrip, international flight bookings for the April to June period are 37% higher compared to the same period last year, said Gaurav Patwari, vice president for air category.

Six things that helped India burst Bazball bubble
England, each Test lasting a shorter time than the previous one, will not put an end to Bazball. That school of thought and style of play will likely be in evidence till the Brendon McCullum-Ben Stokes pairing continues. But this series will emphatically lay to rest the claims that this is either the best way to play Test cricket, or indeed the only way. For some time now England have been evangelists, claiming that their brand of cricket is breathing fresh life into a format in decline. The sordid truth, though, is that winning matters more than playing bright cricket. Fans of any team do not like losing, and throughout this series, England have created opportunities and repeatedly fluffed them. India were just too good. And there’s a range of factors that allowed them to be so. SPIN THRILL

Former DMK leader arrested in ₹2,000 crore international drugs trafficking case
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested former DMK functionary Jaffer Sadiq in Delhi on Saturday, in connection with a ₹2,000 crore international drugs trafficking case. The central agency has termed Sadiq the «mastermind and kingpin» of the illicit network spread across India, Australia and New Zealand. Sadiq, a producer of Tamil films, was recently expelled by the DMK from the party after the NCB stated that he was linked to the drugs network. He was the Chennai West deputy organiser of the DMK's NRI wing. The opposition BJP and AIADMK in the state have been targeting the DMK over the matter. Last month, the NCB said it had arrested three people, all hailing from Tamil Nadu, and seized 50 kg of narcotics-making chemical pseudoephedrine during a raid at a godown in Delhi. The searches by the NCB, along with the special cell of the Delhi Police, came about following a tip-off received towards the end of 2023 from the Australian and New Zealand authorities about «large quantities» of pseudoephedrine concealed in desiccated coconut powder and mix food powder being smuggled into their countries from India.
