Olympic champions Canada were dumped out at the hands of a fired-up Australian team who knew they had to win in Melbourne to progress. They did it in style, their big victory putting them through as Group B winners, meaning they will probably avoid European champions England in the next round.

New Zealand and Switzerland played out an underwhelming 0-0 stalemate in the Women's World Cup on Sunday, sending the co-hosts out of the tournament on goal difference and the Europeans through to the last 16 as Group A winners. Norway's 6-0 thrashing of the Philippines in the other group game in Auckland put them level on four points with New Zealand but second on goal difference.

Google is celebrating the Fifa Women's World Cup with a special doodle released on Sunday. Google's latest doodle will only be available in select countries including Canada, Iceland, Cuba, Costa Rica, United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Latvia, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Armenia, Zambia, Nigeria, Japan, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. The search giant had announced a special multiplayer game to commemorate the opening day of the FIFA Women's World Cup on July 20.

New Zealand family of five purchased the tickets that took the sales total to 1.5 million for the Women's World Cup on Monday. Soccer's world governing body says the tournament being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand is on track to be the best attended in the competition's history.FIFA said the 1,500,000th ticket went to Auckland woman Maria Strong, who bought tickets for her husband and three children to attend Italy's Group G win over Argentina at Eden Park as part of a family celebration for her son's 12th birthday. In a statement, FIFA said the sales target had been surpassed within the first five days of the month-long tournament, setting the 2023 edition on course to surpass 2015 in Canada for the record attendance.

Poland after contact was lost during training, Poland's Defence Ministry said Friday. The ministry said that no one was hurt and there was no damage from the incident on Thursday afternoon. Polish media reported that an eyewitness saw an object crashing in the woods near the village of Trzebien and notified the fire brigade.

Netflix will soon roll out a docuseries narrating the journey of U.S. Women’s National Team or the USWNT to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. It will be the fifth world cup if they win. Win or lose, Netflix will capture their journey and excitement to cater to the world, particularly to the U.S. audience. The U.S.A. is not known for football and its men’s national team ranks much below on the table. But the USWNT is the current holder of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. It has evolved over the years since 1991 when the FFA Women’s World Cup was launched in China. Netflix series will certainly try to depict this scenario. The docuseries is yet to be named. Netflix will co-produce the series in association with TIME Studios, Words + Pictures, and Togethxr. The official date of release too has not been announced, but it will be released most likely in the Fall of this year. But, if the USWNT win the world cup, the series may be released before it. The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicked off July 20 in Auckland, New Zealand. The inaugural match was played between co-hots New Zealand and Norway. Norway won the match 1-0. The final will be held on August 20 in the Australian city of Sydney. Most of the experts have predicted that the USWNT will reach the final and they are most likely to win the world cup.

New Zealand have taken a surprise lead against Norway in the opening game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

World Cup game after a gunman killed two people at a downtown construction site in Auckland, roughly 12 hours ahead of co-host New Zealand's match against Norway. Norway's team hotel was located within a short distance of the shooting, which occurred in the tourist area of the city near the harbor ferry terminal. Norway captain Maren Mjelde said teammates were awakened by a helicopter hovering outside the hotel.

Taiwan is looking to buy National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, or NASAMS, from the United States to upgrade its air defence capabilities having seen how well they work in Ukraine, the island's defence minister said on Tuesday. China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, has stepped up military and political pressure over the past three years to try to force the democratically governed island to accept Beijing's rule. NASAMS have been provided by the United States for use in Ukraine, with USA officials saying they have had a 100% success rate in intercepting Russian missiles. The system, developed and built by Raytheon Technologies and Norway's Kongsberg Gruppen is a short- to medium-range ground-based air defence system that protects against drone, missile, and aircraft attack, which both Canada and Lithuania have also bought, or are buying for Ukraine. Asked on the sidelines of parliament about Taiwan buying NASAMS, Defence Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng said «certainly» there was a proposal to get them.
