London | A race between European and Chinese energy groups to lock in shipments of liquefied natural gas from the US is driving investment in a range of export projects that will boost a market facing a potential supply shortage.

NATO members, unable to agree on a new leader for the military alliance amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, extended Secretary–General Jens Stoltenberg’s mandate by one year. Stoltenberg, who recently said he had no plans to remain in the office he has held since October 2014, said he was honored by the decision, which is the fourth time his initial four-yearterm has been extended. He will serve through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s 75th anniversary next April, and a summit in Washington next summer.

This includes central bank token issuance to commercial bank wallets, customer non-custodial wallet creation, CBDC conversion through orchestration of deposit account updates with on-chain transactions, and providing wallet access points for user-to-user transfers on-chain.First, it has worked with R3, which has seen its Corda private, permissioned distributed application platform tapped for a number of central bank and BIS CBDC projects globally.Secondly, Temenos used Hyperledger Besu, an opensource Ethereum client, run as a multi-node private, permissioned network, combined with a modified version of the Norgesbank CBDC sandbox, published by the Norwegian central bank.

Bitdeer have announced plans to raise $500 million to set up crypto mining operations that use the Himalayan kingdom's plentiful hydropower. Huge amounts of electricity are needed to power the vast computer farms that mine for cryptocurrency, leading to heavy criticism of their impact on the climate and a search for greener mining options. Soaring energy costs have also squeezed crypto firms, leading to the birth of several initiatives to find cheaper and more sustainable ways to power their operations in a notoriously risky and volatile industry. The initiative announced on Wednesday by the Bhutan government's investment arm Druk and Nasdaq-listed crypto-mining firm Bitdeer includes the construction of data centres and investment in renewable energy such as hydropower and hydrogen.
