How will my annuity be taxed if I live in Portugal on a Golden Visa?
You have not mentioned your period of stay, but I assume you have become a non-resident Indian and a resident of Portugal as you run a business there. I also assume you do not spend more than the specified threshold period (120 days/182 days) on your visits to India, and therefore do not become a resident under Indian income tax law. Assuming you are liable to pay tax in Portugal as a resident, you qualify as a tax resident of Portugal under the India-Portugal Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).

Beside Vasco da Gama’s tomb, 500 years later: A story of neglected opportunities to lure foreign tourists
What instantly caught my attention were the charming bylanes with curious names: Princess Street, Napier Street and Peter Cell Street, all dotted with elegant European-style homes. At the centre of it stood a square named after Vasco da Gama, a figure plucked straight out of my school history books. I made my way to St Francis Church, one of Kerala’s oldest churches, where the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama was laid to rest for 14 years until his son, Petro de Silva da Gama, carried his mortal remains back to Portugal. Inside, an enclosure marked by a signboard reading “Vasco da Gama Tomb” caught my eye. Taking a seat on a nearby wooden bench, I began googling the famed navigator, only to be stunned by an unexpected revelation—da Gama died in Kochi on December 24, 1524.

What will be the cost if you travel to all 193 countries? Gina Morello, who has done it, reveals
Gina Morello, originally from the USA and now based in Portugal, has achieved the remarkable feat of visiting all 193 United Nations member countries. In about two decades, she embarked on solo journeys, with 90 per cent of her travels undertaken alone. Once an aviation consultant, she transitioned to freelance work after the COVID-19 pandemic. Among her unique adventures, Morello has explored the isolated Wakhan Valley in Tajikistan, accessible only after a five-day horseback ride from Kabul, Afghanistan. She ventured to the Matsés people in the Amazon Rainforest via a two-day boat trip and visited the Bijago tribe in Guinea-Bissau, where women lead families. She’s also been to Sealand, the world’s smallest country, an offshore platform in the North Sea, and braved the extreme cold of Russia's Yamal Peninsula, where temperatures can drop to -50°C. Each destination offered her rare and extraordinary experiences, showcasing the diversity of the world’s most unconventional places.
