For context, the FIFA World Cup trophy is one of the most prestigious and tightly controlled sports awards in the world. The real one currently belongs to Argentina, who won the 2022 tournament in Qatar. So, how did Trump end up with it?
Before conspiracy theories could spiral out of control, FIFA confirmed that the trophy seen in Trump's office is not the real deal. The governing body of international football clarified to The Independent that the trophy in Trump’s possession is merely a replica.
Trump, who is known to have a close relationship with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, may have received the trophy as a gift ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the U.S. is co-hosting with Mexico and Canada.
