Mallory McMorrow enters Michigan Senate race, promises ‘new generation of leadership’
Mallory McMorrow has announced her candidacy for the US Senate seat, currently held by Democrat Gary Peters. Senator Peters is set to retire in 2026. The 38-year-old Democrat has become the first prominent candidate to formally enter the race. Her entry has set the stage for what is expected to be one of the most competitive and expensive senate battlers of the midterms. McMorrow, who represents a suburban Detroit district, positioned herself as a fresh alternative to the Democratic Party’s current leadership, the reports stated. The politician, in her campaign launch video, called for a ‘new generation of leadership’. She also criticised party veterans for their failure to offer a clear plan to counter President Donald Trump’s influence.

NCAA basketball: Michigan State's Tre Holloman, Gehrig Normand enter transfer portal
Michigan State’s Elite Eight run, has entered the transfer portal. The 6-foot-2 guard from Minneapolis averaged 9.1 points and 3.7 assists per game, shooting 37.3 per cent from the field. Holloman, a team captain, started 16 of the Spartans’ 37 games this season before moving to the bench in February. He, as per reports, shared point guard duties with redshirt freshman Jeremy Fears. He played alongside Jaden Akins and Jase Richardson in the backcourt. According to Spartan Mag, his impact included a buzzer-beating three-pointer against Maryland. He helped Michigan State secure the Big Ten regular-season title. However, in the Spartans’ season-ending loss to Auburn (70-64), Holloman struggled. He just scored two points on 0-for-10 shooting. With Michigan State’s rosters in flux, Holloman will explore new opportunities but retains the option to return before the April 22 deadline.

US to freeze scholarships funding; thousands of Indian students in limbo
US State Department's decision to freeze funding for Fulbright and other scholarships has left thousands of Indian students in limbo, stripping them of an opportunity that once changed lives, said study abroad consultants. Apart from taking away financial support, the stoppage has effectively blocked academic exposure for a host of students who are capable but with limited means, and stranded some mid-course. Shreya Mudgil was pursuing an MPhil in English from Kurukshetra University. As a 2019 Fulbright scholar, she spent a year primarily at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with all expenses covered and a stipend to boot. It was an opportunity she could only dream of till then. More than just academic exposure, it reshaped her introvert personality. Mudgil, head of marketing at food startup Conosh, now moves effortlessly in elite culinary circles, rubbing shoulders with celebrity and Michelin-starred chefs. «A hundred percent of that transformation came from the exposure Fulbright gave me,» she said.
