Chinese hacker group exploits startup bug to target US, Indian companies
Volt Typhoon is exploiting a bug in a California-based startup to hack American and Indian internet companies, according to security researchers. Volt Typhoon has breached four US firms, including internet service providers, and another in India through a vulnerability in a Versa Networks server product, according to Lumen Technologies Inc's unit Black Lotus Labs. Their assessment, much of which was published in a blog post Tuesday, found with «moderate confidence» that Volt Typhoon was behind the breaches of unpatched Versa systems and said exploitation was likely ongoing. Versa, which makes software that manages network configurations and has attracted investment from Blackrock Inc and Sequoia Capital, announced the bug last week and offered a patch and other mitigations.

Joe Oliver: The uncanny parallels between Trudeau and Harris
After receiving the backroom blessing of Democratic Party powerbrokers, Kamala Harris quickly closed the presidential polling gap — though without granting a single interview. “Unburdened by what has been,” to quote the new Democratic nominee, many voters enthusiastically support her candidacy simply because she is not Donald Trump. But what she stands for should be of intense interest, not only to American voters, but to America’s allies and rivals around the world. For Canadians, the many parallels between Harris and Justin Trudeau are uncanny.

Healthcare vertical keeping heart rates up at Indian IT services companies
Cognizant TriZetto, a unit of Cognizant Technology Solutions, sued Infosys in a US court, accusing the Indian IT service firm of stealing trade secrets related to its healthcare insurance software. This was the latest of developments in the healthcare verticals of India-centric IT services firms that have grabbed headlines in recent months, for positive or negative reasons. In November last year, the US Supreme Court rejected Tata Consultancy Services' appeal against a District Court of Wisconsin verdict, charging $140 million in punitive damages in a case filed by Epic Systems. The US healthcare software company had accused TCS of stealing its intellectual property when the Indian firm was contracted to implement its software.
