Donald Trump asks judge to delay sentencing in hush money case until after November election
Donald Trump is asking the judge in his New York hush money criminal case to delay his sentencing until after the November presidential election. In a letter made public Thursday, a lawyer for the former president and current Republican nominee suggested that sentencing Trump as scheduled on Sept. 18 — about seven weeks before Election Day — would amount to election interference. Trump lawyer Todd Blanche wrote that a delay would also allow Trump time to weigh next steps after the trial judge, Juan M. Merchan, is expected to rule Sept. 16 on the defense's request to overturn the verdict and dismiss the case because of the U.S. Supreme Court's July presidential immunity ruling.

In volatile election season, US companies battle 'brand disinformation'
Google to Netflix, prominent US companies are battling internet boycott calls over their perceived political leanings in a polarising election season that has exposed them to what researchers call "brand disinformation." The online campaigns, which falsely claim both Netflix and Google are funding or favoring Democratic nominee Kamala Harris ahead of the November election, illustrate how brands are vulnerable to political falsehoods that can expose them to financial perils. Those calling for a boycott, researchers say, include fake accounts on the platform X. The site is owned by Elon Musk, who has endorsed Donald Trump and appears to exert an outsized influence on voters through the platform, which has become a hotbed of disinformation.

Donald Trump's firm shares crash near historic lows. Is interview with Elon Musk to be blamed?
Donald Trump's media company shares dipped and neared record lows on Wednesday. This comes after following weak quarterly results and the Republican presidential candidate's return to social media platform X. Trump's dwindling lead in polls and election betting markets in recent weeks has also hit the stock, which has been seen by some retail traders as a bet on whether Trump would win a second term, as per Reuters report. Trump majority owns Trump Media & Technology Group, whose main asset is the Truth Social app popular among some conservatives. On Tuesday, Trump marked his return to X with an interview with the platform owner Elon Musk.

Kamala Harris making huge gains in Rust Belt states, says poll
Kamala Harris is gaining ground in the Rust Belt. The states that were once the US manufacturing centers, employing a large part of the population in manufacturing jobs, voted heavily in favor of Donald Trump in 2016. But, Axios has reported that Kamala Harris has closed the gap in the region comprising Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Riots in the UK make a case for social media supervision
The UK’s image as a multicultural country is the obvious loser from the far-right violence of the past fortnight, but in time these tragic events may have wider implications for the policing of social media everywhere. The role of X in disseminating often-false information and lionizing rabble-rousers, as well as X owner Elon Musk’s provocative tweets and irresponsible retweets, are all under the microscope.
