Lingo Telecom agrees to $1 million fine over AI-generated Biden robocalls
Lingo Telecom agreed to pay a $1 million fine after the agency said it transmitted fake robocalls imitating President Joe Biden seeking to dissuade people from voting for him in New Hampshire's Democratic primary election, a US government regulator said on Wednesday. The Federal Communications Commission said Lingo transmitted spoofed robocalls that used generative artificial intelligence voice-cloning technology «to spread disinformation.» The calls were directed by political consultant Steve Kramer, who has been charged by the New Hampshire state attorney general's office. The FCC earlier proposed fining Lingo $2 million for allegedly transmitting the robocalls in January. The FCC said Lingo under the settlement will implement a compliance plan requiring strict adherence to FCC caller ID authentication rules.

DNC Day 3: Kamala Harris' running mate Tim Walz, Nancy Pelosi, Bill Clinton to be key speakers
Tim Walz accepts the Democratic nomination for vice president on Wednesday with 11 weeks to go before he and presidential running mate Kamala Harris face Republican former President Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. election. Walz, 60, a military veteran, former high school teacher and football coach, will talk about growing up on a farm in Nebraska, his family and freedoms that Democrats say are under attack from Trump, making his third run for the White House. Walz has brought a folksy charm to the campaign trail, describing himself and Harris as «joyful warriors» focused on a brighter future, in contrast to Republicans who they say are stoking fear and division.

US stock markets heading for volatility till November elections; here's what you need to do
stock markets have already taken an affinity towards Kamala Harris as soon as she entered the Presidential poll race after replacing Joe Biden on the ticket. According to Market Watch, the chances of Harris winning the polls are 64% based on the stock market trends that were earlier behaving in a rather non-predictable manner. The stock market's shift towards Harris is a positive sign as it means that the investors are backing the Democrats and counting on them for the country's economy in the future. Although, this may have little impact on the polls, but the majority share of these investors are voters, and therefore some data extrapolation and analysis can help in understanding the current political landscape, ahead of the US Presidential Elections 2024.

RFK Jr to support Donald Trump? Here's what you need to know

As per the reports of Yahoo news, Nicole Shanahan, Kennedy's vice presidential candidate, revealed in a recent interview that they might withdraw from the race to support Trump. Did Michelle Obama snub Joe Biden at the DNC 2024? Here's all you need to know
Michelle Obama, gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, just one night after the president gave an emotional and passionate farewell speech. Almost as a way to make things worse, she kept complimenting her husband's 2008 campaign without bringing up Joe Biden. Michelle says there is an incredibly magical vibe in the air. According to a New York Post report, the 60-year-old Chicago native continued to express her gratitude for her husband, referring to his catchphrase from his popular campaign. In the period leading to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race, Michelle, who fared relatively better against Trump in polls than Harris and any other contender from the Democratic party, insisted that the vice president is capable of stepping into Biden’s shoes on the Democratic ticket. She proudly announced that the woman who could take responsibility of this moment is Kamala Harris and that she is among the most qualified persons to be the president. The former first lady criticized Trump’s barbs towards the vice president-elect, describing them as petty and regressive, and said that Trump was being petty in his swings. She shouted at voters who are ready to vote for a woman and who are ready to bully, and she appealed to Democrats’ action over the attacks on Harris. America’s rich never sell their assets. How should they be taxed?
Editor’s note (June 20th 2024): The Supreme Court has ruled in Moore v United States, upholding the tax at issue (the “mandatory repatriation tax"). The court declined to weigh in on the constitutionality of a tax on unrealised gains. What is income, really? Ask an economist and they might describe “Haig-Simons" income—the value of a person’s consumption of goods and services, plus the change in their net worth over a certain period. A lawyer might refer to Section 61(a) of the IRS Code 26, which defines “gross" income as “all income from whatever source derived", including but not limited to commission, interest, property deals and wages.

China says it is 'seriously concerned' about US nuclear strategic report
China is seriously concerned about a report that said the United Stated approved a nuclear strategic plan to focus on China's rapid expansion in its nuclear arsenal, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Wednesday. «The U.S. is peddling the China nuclear threat narrative, finding excuses to seek strategic advantage,» a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said. According to a report by the New York Times, U.S. President Joe Biden approved in March a highly classified nuclear strategic plan that focused on China's quickly growing arsenal, but also seeks to prepare the U.S for possible coordinated nuclear challenges from China, Russia and North Korea.

US election: Kamala Harris' election effort raises around $500 million in a month
Kamala Harris' election effort has raised around $500 million since she became the Democratic presidential candidate, sources told Reuters, an unprecedented money haul that reflects donor enthusiasm going into the Nov. 5 election. Four sources familiar with the fundraising effort told Reuters that figure had been banked for Harris in the four weeks since she jumped into the race on July 21. Campaign cash is critical for advertising and get-out-the-vote efforts that help bring people to the polls and persuade undecided voters to swing a candidate's way.

Hamas pushes back against US, says It wants Gaza ceasefire
Hamas said it was «keen» on reaching a cease-fire agreement with Israel, denying what it said were US claims it is stalling negotiations to end the devastating conflict in Gaza. The Palestinian militant group Tuesday said remarks by US President Joe Biden and his top diplomat, Antony Blinken, were «misleading and don't reflect the reality of the movement's position.» The comments came a day after Blinken met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and said the next step toward a truce is for «Hamas to say yes.» Blinken said Netanyahu had accepted a proposal the US is calling a «bridging agreement» to tide the sides over until they iron out the final details. Hamas said the proposal was different from a Biden-led plan unveiled in May, suggesting they are unhappy with Israel's latest demands. The two sides are meant to start a new round of negotiations in Cairo this week, but no date's been set for that yet. Egypt is mediating, along with the US and Qatar.

US presidential elections: Opportunity economy, or opportunist, Kamala Harris?
economic agenda at a campaign rally in North Carolina, a Republican swing state, focusing on lowering costs, and hoping to usher in what she called an 'opportunity economy' — 'Everyone, regardless of who they are or where they start, has an opportunity to build wealth for themselves and their children.' Harris' proposed economic plan follows up Bidenomics. Except that this time around, Harris — and Trump, in his own way — has embraced the idea of a strong federal government that would use its authority to manipulate markets to create a more robust and wealthy economy. However, neither Harris not Trump has, till date, presented a thorough policy framework. Harris has called for a reduction in the price of food, housing, medicine and other living expenses. A large portion of Joe Biden's last presidential budget — and brief re-election campaign — are being expanded upon by Harris. The strategy calls for significant tax hikes on corporations and high earners to support middle-class and low-income workers. Simultaneously, it offers substantial tax advantages to businesses involved in activities that Democrats believe yield significant economic benefits, such as building affordable housing, or developing technologies required to combat global warming.

CNN’s S.E. Cupp slams Bill Clinton’s role at DNC, demands greater transparency from Kamala Harris
Bill Clinton's inclusion in the Democratic National Convention (DNC) program has drawn harsh criticism from CNN commentator S.E. Cupp. Recognized for her candidacies, Cupp called Clinton's endorsement of decency a «bad look» for a party. She demanded that Clinton be excluded from all next conventions and questioned the purpose of having him there, considering that he had attended every DNC since he became president, as per the reports of Yahoo news. Cupp's critique emerged following comments from Kate Bedingfield, former White House communications director, who noted that President Joe Biden would focus on decency during his speech at the convention. Cupp took this opportunity to express her disagreement, stating that Clinton's ongoing presence at these events undermines the Democratic Party’s image. She urged the party to finally remove Clinton from the DNC, suggesting that his continued involvement is problematic and outdated. Dr Biden & Mr Joe, a transformatory tale
Chicago Monday evening — a warmer Tuesday afternoon across India that seems to be always ahead of America — an elderly gentleman, confident on the stage, came across a veritable hero before his rousing, cheering audience. In theory, he was the same person who, in late June at the first presidential debate with Donald Trump, looked confused, lost and old. In practice, though, Joe Biden at the Democratic National Convention, almost two months older now, was a changed man as he took the adulation from the very same lot who had — for legitimate reasons — given him the shove from a re-election bid.

Kamala Harris is walking a fine line on the Gaza conflict
Pro-Palestinian organizers have vowed to flood the streets of Chicago with thousands of protesters during the Democratic National Convention, which [began Monday]. If successful, they will make headlines, but they also will almost certainly alienate allies as they attempt to box in Vice President Kamala Harris on Gaza. Harris has already taken a firmer stand than President Joe Biden in demanding Israel focus its attacks on Hamas rather than the Palestinian people.
