However, it is unlikely that Modi will visit Islamabad, though it remains to be seen if he will delegate a minister to represent India, as has been done in the past, considering the strained relations between the two nations, the report added. Pakistan is set to host the CHG meeting on October 15-16, as it currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the council, the second most important decision-making body within the SCO, following the Council of Heads of State. While Modi regularly attends the heads of state summits, he skipped the recent one in Kazakhstan due to a scheduling conflict with a Parliament session in early July.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy's comments on India's crude oil trade with Russia may not have been in the right spirit, coming hours after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kyiv during which New Delhi explained the market rationale for oil imports given its substantial requirements. Emphasising on India's «global influence», Zelenskyy suggested that India can help end Moscow's war in Ukraine by halting the oil trade that significantly funds the Russian military. «You can stop Vladimir Putin and halt his economy, and put him really in his place,» Zelenskyy told members of the Indian media on Friday night in Kyiv, referring to his meeting with Modi earlier in the day.

Power Finance Corp (PFC) has committed about ₹21,000 crore toward helping build India's largest ever container port, the Vadhavan Port along the western coast, people aware of the development told ET. The big-ticket sanction comes almost two months after the union cabinet's approval of the ₹76,220-crore mega port project to be developed at Palghar district in Maharashtra. The project is to be developed by the Vadhavan Port Project Ltd, a special purpose vehicle formed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and the Maharashtra Maritime Board. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Maharashtra on August 30 for its foundation stone laying ceremony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid homage at the 'Good Maharaja Square,' a monument in memory of the late Maharaja of Jamnagar in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. According to the Indian Embassy website, eight Polish primary and secondary schools are named after Jam Saheb, known as 'Good Maharaja' in Poland. The memorial monument – comprising a small brick pillar with inscriptions on it – was unveiled in October 2014 at the Square of the Good Maharaja, Ochota district in Warsaw.

The Nawanagar ruler, along with Shrimant Rajarshi Chhatrapati Sahu Maharaj of Kolhapur provided housing and hospitality to an estimated 5,000 Polish citizens from 1942 to 1946 as the war raged in Europe.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said that despite being bitter rivals in the past, the undivided Shiv Sena and Congress were never vindictive towards each other. Speaking at a 'Sadbhavana Diwas' event here to mark the birth anniversary of the late Rajiv Gandhi, Thackeray also noted that Central agencies never harassed Shiv Sena leaders even though party founder Bal Thackeray had criticised the then prime minister in his speeches. Thackeray, who joined hands with the Congress in 2019 after parting ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party, took part in a Congress event for the first time. Government on Tuesday instructed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) chairman to cancel the recent lateral entry advertisement. The directive, issued under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, comes amid growing political controversy over the lateral entry process. In a letter addressed to the UPSC chairman, Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State (MoS) for the Department of Personnel and Training, conveyed the Prime Minister's stance that the lateral entry process must adhere to the principles of equity and social justice as stated in the Indian Constitution, particularly concerning the provisions of reservation. The government emphasized that the lateral entry mechanism needs to be reviewed and reformed to align with PM Modi's focus on ensuring social justice. «Cancelling the advertisement would be a significant advance in the pursuit of social justice and empowerment,» the letter stated.

India and Malaysia on Tuesday decided to elevate their ties to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim. The two sides inked a number of pacts, including one on employment and repatriation of workers and another on boosting cooperation in the area of digital technologies. Ibrahim began his three-day visit to India on Monday night. It is his first visit to India as prime minister. The larger focus of the Modi-Ibrahim talks was to expand trade and investment and explore cooperation in new and emerging areas.

World Meetei Council (WMC) urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take «immediate steps» to resolve the ongoing ethnic crisis in Manipur adding that over a year-long hostility is a matter of national concern. WMC's Tripura unit President H. Bankim Singha, on the sidelines of an event here, said the Manipur crisis has been persisting for over 15 months, claiming over 225 lives while leaving thousands homeless and destitute. These demands come in the wake of the alleged rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, coupled with accusations of a botched investigation and cover-up. Healthcare professionals and organizations, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA), have launched widespread protests advocating for a central law to ensure medic safety. Notable signatories of the letter include Dr. Balram Bhargava, former Director General of ICMR, Dr. Randeep Guleria, former AIIMS Delhi Director, and Dr. S K Sarin, Director of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences. In the letter, the doctors have expressed their significant concern and called for PM Modi's immediate intervention. Yogi Adityanath on Sunday alleged the opposition Samajwadi Party consider it «their life's goal to prove every rapist and criminal innocent» and asserted that it would not be possible in the state. Union Budget being passed in Parliament, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is on a two-day visit to Delhi to push for early implementation of the promises made to his state in the Budget. Naidu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday. Naidu, whose Telugu Desam Party (TDP) provides the vital numerical support of 16 MPs to National Democratic Alliance (NDA), is expected to raise the issue of Central support for Polavaram irrigation project and development of Amravati as state capital. Naidu met Jal Shakti minister C R Patil on Saturday to discuss Polavaram project. Naidu also visited the civil aviation ministry to take stock of the various airports under developments and improvement of air connectivity in Andhra Pradesh.

India so far and plans more investment in the coming year, its Chairman Young Liu said on Saturday. Liu, a Padma Bhushan awardee, said that during his current visit he met various chief ministers and feels that India is on the rise. «So far, till last year, we have done USD 10 billion. We will do much more in this coming year,» Liu told PTI. He was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the company's women-only residential complex near Foxconn's plant here.
