Anil Bonde on the charge of intention to cause riots on Wednesday over his controversial remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, police said. Bonde has kicked up a row, saying Gandhi's tongue should be singed as his remarks on reservation were «dangerous» and hurt the feelings of the 'bahujan' and majority communities. The FIR against Bonde followed a sit-in protest by Congress leaders, including Amravati MP Balwant Wankhede, MLA Yashomati Thakur, former Minister Sunil Deshmukh and the party workers at the office of the city police commissioner. A case was registered against Bonde at Rajapeth police station in Amravati under sections 192 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riots), 351 (ii) (the act of intentionally causing another person to apprehend the use of criminal force) and 356 (Punishment for defamation) against MP Anil Bonde.

Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad has threatened to «bury any Congress dog» coming to his programme. On Monday, the Buldhana legislator's announcement of a 'reward' for anyone chopping off Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's tongue had set off a huge political row. Tejasvi Surya slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks and meetings during his visit to the United States and said that he would not be surprised if he held meetings with terrorists someday. Piyush Goyal on Wednesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks in the US, saying it is «absolutely» shameful that the Leader of Opposition is defaming India on foreign soil and he should apologise for that. Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, with both players expected to be relieved «as early as possible,» railway sources said on Sunday. Both Punia and Phogat recently joined the Congress and the latter has been given a ticket to contest election from Julana assembly constituency in Haryana. «The provision of serving three-month notice period after resigning by a railway employee will not come in the way of relieving these two players as we have decided to relax the norm in their cases,» a senior railway official told PTI. Railways sources said both the players «will be relieved possibly today or as early as possible.»

Mumbai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his apology after a statue of the warrior king Shivaji at Malvan in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district collapsed last month. Gandhi, who was in Sangli for a Congress party programme, said the collapse of the statue was an «insult» to the memory of Chhatrapati Shivaji and that the PM should apologise to every person in Maharashtra for the incident.

Vinesh Phogat on Wednesday met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Haryana amid rumours of her joining the party ahead of the Assembly elections in the state. Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia also met the Leader of Opposition. The Congress on Tuesday had said that it would provide clarity on fielding Phogat for the Haryana elections after an AICC central election committee on Monday. Sources said the CEC meeting cleared 34 of the 49 names that it discussed.

Congress is exploring the possibility of an alliance with AAP in poll-bound Haryana. The INDIA bloc partners had stated earlier that their electoral understanding was restricted to the Lok Sabha polls, when Congress contested nine out of 10 seats in the state and AAP one. However, there has been a growing realisation that if the two parties were to fight the assembly elections separately it could mean fragmentation of anti-BJP votes. According to people privy to talks, AAP has sought 10 out of 90 assembly seats but Congress is willing to part with seven. Two rounds of talks have taken place between AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha and Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, they said, adding another round of talks will take place soon.

Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government after the bodies of two teenage girls were found hanging from a tree in Fatehgarh and said even expecting justice under a BJP dispensation is a crime. The Dalit girls, aged 18 and 15, had left their homes around 10 pm on Monday to visit a nearby temple on the occasion of Janmashtami but did not return, police said. Their bodies were found hanging from a tree in a mango orchard outside a village in Fatehgarh on Tuesday, with the police launching an investigation into what it prima facie believed to be a case of double suicide.

Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Saturday renewed his call for a nationwide caste census and pointed out the lack of representation of women from Dalit, Tribal, or Other Backward Classes communities in the "Miss India pageant list."
