Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday accused the BJP of investing vast resources on a campaign targeting her brother, Rahul Gandhi, to malign his image, but Wayanad ignored it and threw its weight behind him. Rahul, who is also the leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, did not back down even under such intense campaign over the past 10 years, Vadra said, addressing campaign rallies in Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district and at Ernad, Wandoor and Nilambur in Malappuram district. The four constituencies are part of Wayanad LS constituency she is contesting from for the November 13 polls as the UDF candidate. She thanked the Wayanad voters for standing by her brother and voting him twice, demonstrating a bond of love and trust towards him. “You recognised this man and his fight much before others saw it...people of Wayanad made a bond of love with him and he is grateful for that..." The people of Wayanad always held a special place in his heart and he was sad when he had to give up the LS membership of the constituency, she said.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday commenced her by-election campaign in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by launching a scathing attack on the BJP-led Centre, alleging that the values of the Constitution are constantly being subverted under its rule. Speaking at a corner meeting organised in Meenangadi, the AICC general secretary referred to the violence in Manipur and alleged that «planned» attacks are taking place against minorities in the country. «You have seen again and again the spread of anger, the spread of hatred by this government...» she alleged. Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday said that she began taking part in political campaigns in 1989 at the age of 17 years when she canvassed votes for her late father Rajiv Gandhi. Addressing a massive gathering at Kalpetta ahead of filing nominations for the upcoming Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, she said that in the 35 years since then, she has campaigned for her mother, Sonia Gandhi, her brother Rahul Gandhi and other party colleagues. Her statement also comes a day after BJP's Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll candidate Navya Haridas said she was more experienced in representing people than Priyanka.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's electoral debut in the Waynad Lok Sabha constituency, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack and called Priyanka «another dynasty product». The party has also released the list of candidates for assembly by-elections from Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal. Navya Haridas serves as a councillor in the Kozhikode Corporation and currently holds the position of Mahila Morcha State General Secretary in the BJP, according to her Twitter profile.

Congress will contest the Jharkhand assembly elections in alliance with the JMM and a final decision on seat sharing is expected soon, a top party leader said on Thursday. The first list of Congress candidates will be issued after October 19, AICC general secretary and its Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir said. The Jharkhand polls will be held in two phases on November 13 and November 20, while the counting of the votes will take place on November 23. «Like 2019, we will contest assembly elections with our alliance partners in the state. The seat sharing has almost been finalised and a final decision on it is expected soon. We will issue the first list of candidates after October 19, particularly after the state visit by our leader Rahul Gandhi,» said Mir, who arrived in Ranchi earlier in the day.

Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted BJP leader Subramanian Swamy time to file a copy of petition pending before the Allahabad High Court on the issue of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's citizenship. The court was informed by Swamy that he had obtained the copy of the petition and the prayers in that matter are different from that of his pleadings. A bench of Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela asked the petitioner to file the documents in electronic form in compliance with its last order and listed his plea for further hearing on November 6. The bench was hearing a plea by Swamy seeking directions to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to decide his representation seeking cancellation of Rahul Gandhi's Indian citizenship.

Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed the BJP over its MP Kangana Ranaut's remarks calling for bringing back the three farm laws and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must clarify whether he was opposed to the comments or is «upto some mischief». Gandhi asserted that any attempt to revive the farm laws will be met with opposition from the INDIA bloc. Ranaut on Wednesday withdrew her remarks calling for bringing back the three farm laws and said those were her personal opinions and did not represent the party's stand. The actor-politician said she must remember that she is not only an artiste but also a BJP member now and her statements should be in line with her party's policies.

BJP on Saturday cited a joint statement of several Sikh groups to ask Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his statement, which has allegedly created an atmosphere of fear in the country. BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa told reporters that several Sikh and gurdwara management bodies met Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai over the issue and he asserted the sacrifices of the Sikhs have made the country strong. The BJP has hit out at Gandhi for his comments during the trip to the US that the ongoing ideological fight in India include ensuring freedom for different religions such as whether the Sikhs will be allowed to wear turban or go to gurdwaras. Sirsa said the Sikh bodies have urged Gandhi to withdraw his statement as it is damaging them.

Congress Committee chief Tariq Hamid Karra on Friday said BJP is touchy and exploitative about Article 370 and this is why Congress is focusing on restoration of statehood with all the rights for locals over land, jobs and admissions to educational institutions. Karra said the sole focus of Congress is to get absolute majority and keep BJP out of government. Congress and National Conference have entered into a pre-poll seat-sharing arrangement in the 90-seat assembly, under which NC is contesting 51 seats and Congress 32 seats. Congress on Thursday slammed the NDA government in Bihar over the incident of setting ablaze of houses in Nawada, saying it is another proof of the "jungle raj" prevailing in the state and exposes «the horrifying picture of injustice against the Bahujans» there. While Congress leaders pegged the number of houses set ablaze at over 80, police said about 21 houses were set on fire in Nawada district. INDIA bloc would soon form Government at the Centre, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah claimed on Wednesday as he predicted that the ruling NDA will not complete its five-year term.He also lashed out at the BJP over the recent statements of its leaders targeting former Congress President Rahul Gandhi. «BJP leaders are issuing threats to Rahul Gandhi as BJP faced a setback in Lok Sabha polls.....We have reached 100 (seats), we will soon form a government, (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi will not complete five years. I don't believe in predicting the future, but I'm still saying it based on the political developments,» Siddaramaiah said. «Looking at the political developments taking place in the government (at the Centre) — see with the support of JD(U) and (N) Chandrababu Naidu (of TDP), he (Modi) is surviving (as PM). They may withdraw support any moment, what will happen then?», he said at a press conference at his home-office 'Krishna.'
