Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana dispatched a kilogram of jalebis to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at his office in New Delhi. This delivery comes after the BJP secured a historic third consecutive win in the Haryana Assembly elections. However, rather than a gesture of goodwill, it served as a pointed jab at Gandhi's earlier comments regarding Gohana jalebis, known for their unique taste and preparation.
The BJP's Haryana unit proudly announced the delivery on X (formerly Twitter), stating, «On behalf of all the workers of Bhartiya Janta Party (in) Haryana, jalebis have been sent to Rahul Gandhi's home.» The tweet included a screenshot of the food delivery order from a local sweets and chaat shop, confirming the package was directed to the Congress headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, New Delhi.
During his campaign, Rahul Gandhi spoke about how jalebis from Gohana are mass-produced and sold across the country, as well as being exported to generate employment and revenue. He asserted that jalebi sellers were adversely affected by the central government's Goods and Services Tax (GST) system. This remark elicited laughter from BJP leaders, who ridiculed Gandhi's understanding of the sweet’s preparation and distribution.
